Descendants of Eliza Crankfield (1816/8-1905) and George Bush

The seventh child of Littleton and Lucy (Wilson) Crankfield was Elizabeth “Eliza” Crankfield. Eliza married George Bush in November 1841. They are buried in the Bush graveyard (now Snowden Berryman Farm) in Clark County, Kentucky. They had seven children between 1849 and 1858. The first child, Lucy, was born in South Carolina. All the rest were born in Clark County, Kentucky. The seven children of Eliza and George Bush were:
Lucy Ann Bush (b.1844).
Josephine “Jose” Bush died young.
Mary Elizabeth Bush (1846-1916), married John J. Shepherd.
Frances “Frankie” Jane Bush (1847-1937).
Susan Catherine “Kitty” Bush (1852-1880), married Robert Engle.
Sarah Ellen Bush (1852-1864).
Emma Gentry Bush (1858-1940) married Samuel Jackson Shimfessel in 1877.

(1) Lucy Ann Bush (b. 1844)

Lucy Ann Bush was the first child of Eliza and George Bush. Lucy married Judge William Jerde Rice. They had nine children:
Littleton Crankfield Rice.
Samuel Laughan Rice.
George Bush Rice.
Clark Rice.
John Talbot Rice.
Bush? Rice.
Julia Patterson Rice, who married _________ Parks.
Connie Rice, who married ___________ Tribble.
Kittie Rice.

(4) Frankie Bush Brookshire (1849-1937)

Frankie and Newt Bush Pictured to the left is Frankie Bush Brookshire (1847-1937). Click on the picture to enlarge it. She was the fourth child of Eliza and George Bush. In this picture she is on the right. On the left is her husband, John Newton "Newt" Brookshire (1843-1922). They married in 1868. They are buried at Winchester Cemetery in Clark County, Kentucky. (/un/crank/crank-jpg/crank-7.jpg). Frankie and Newt Brookshire had eight children in the 1860s and 1870s:
Rodney Brookshire married Sophia Witt.
George W. Brookshire (25 September 1873- 12 July 1962) married Magnolia Tuttle on 18 February 1896. He is buried at Roswell, New Mexico.
Walker Brookshire married Estelle.
Elizabeth Brookshire married Jeff Watts.
Amanda Catherine "Kittie” Brookshire (1877-1940) married Ollie Clay Hardman (1878-1972) in 1899. Click here for information about her descendants. (/crank-html/frankie.html).

Frances (Frankie) Brookshire married Joseph Bush. They had no children.

(7) Emma Gentry Bush Shimfessel (1858-1940)

Emma Gentry Bush The seventh child of Eliza and George Bush was Emma Gentry Bush (28 Jan.1858-2 Feb.1940). She is pictured here next to her partially visible husband, Samuel Jackson Shimfessel. They married on 27 Feb. 1877 and had a farm in Clark County, Kentucky about three miles from the mouth of Red River. Emma is buried at Garlandsville, Mississippi. (/un/crank/crank-jpg/crank-8.jpg). Between 1878 and 1892 Sam and Emma Shimfessel had ten children. These were:
Hattie Belle Shimfessel (1878-1966).
Augustus "Gus" Shimfessel (b.1881).
Claude M. Shimfessel (1881-1974).
Polly Bush "Mollie" Shimfessel (Berryman) (1885-1972).
Thomas "Tom" Dudley Shimfessel (1879-1964).
George Bush Shimfessel (b. 1890).
Stella Lee Shimfessel (Adams) (1892-1983).
Pearl Shimfessel.
Bob Shimfessel.
John Shimfessel.

Children of Emma Shimfessel Pictured to the left is Claude M. Shimfessel (1883-1974), who was the third child of Sam and Emma Shimfessel. In 1902 he was baptized at Dunaway United Methodist Church during the ministry of George Boswell. In 1907 he married Evelyn Aldridge. In 1918 Claude received his local preacher’s license. During the following 58 years of his ministry he preached at twenty-one hundred funerals and one hundred revivals at Dunaway, El Bethel, Mt. Zion and in county school houses. He estimated he had traveled over 35,000 miles in his ministry. (/un/crank/crank-jpg/crank-8.jpg). Claude and Evelyn had seven children.

Stella Shimfessel Pictured to the left is Stella Lee Shimfessel (1892-1983). She was the seventh child of Emma and Sam Shimfessel. She was born in Clark County Kentucky. She married Robert "Bob" Adams (1887-1960) in 1912 at Jellico, Tennessee. He is pictured here with her. Bob was a businessman and city commissioner of Winchester, Kentucky. Bob's father, Andy Adams fought on the Union side during the Civil War. Lee was a member of the Winchester Central Baptist Church. She died in Winchester, Kentucky and is buried at Claremont Gardens in Clark County, Kentucky. Lee and Bob had seven children between 1912 and the 1920s.
