Aluo's Tibetan Lodge and Adventures is a small backpacker's lodge located in the Nu valley of Yunnan province, China. The valley is the world's largest canyon and according to UNESCO the area supports 25% of the world’s animal species and 50% of China’s. The area was a refuge during the last ice age and has been described by UNESCO as “one of the world's least disturbed temperate ecological areas, an epicenter of Chinese endemic species and a natural gene pool of great richness.” The lodge, located in Dimaluo village, is populated entirely by ethnic minorities and is 80% Catholic. We provide backpacking services, cultural exhibitions and stay in a place that is beautifully diverse both in the unique culture adapted by the locals and the wild range of plants and animals that call this valley home.
A sample of the activities we offer: Attend Catholic mass given in Chinese with local Nu, Tibetan, Lisu, and Dulong minorities Stay in and trek through a UNSECO Natural Heritage site with our experienced local guides Drink fresh yak butter tea and enjoy other traditional local foods in our comfortable traveler's lodge Travel the same road followed by French Missionaries over 150 years ago, pass through one of China's old growth forests, visit a still-active Catholic church built in 1848 and end up in Deqin, home of Zhongdian, also known as James Hilton's Shangri-La
