Breaststroke can be a long stroke, you have to have a very good kick similar to the movement of a frog through water where both legs come up and kick out to the side and go around and back up. Your arms should stretch out then pull around and in. You have to simulaneously lift your head up to breathe every time you pull your arms in.

When Swimming in a competition you have to dive from the block and do one arm pull and one leg kick under water then come up to the surface and start swimming (if you do more than one arm pull and one leg kick under water, you'll be disqualified)

When you come to do a tumble turn you have to touch the wall with two hands at the same time then let go with one hand and put it in front of you while you push off from the wall with both legs and your other arm comes over your head. When finishing, hit the wall with both hands at the same time otherwise you'll be disqualified.

There are 3 main drills for breaststroke

  • 2 pulls and one kick
  • Butterfly kick (normal arms)
  • keeping your hands together in a prayer position, pushing your arms out of the water in front of you.
