Construction and urbanism

The Community Sopiste developed without any regulation. In the near suburban region of Skopje it has been developing as suburb of the big city without any serious economic activities, practically for living in small houses only. Inside, it developed traditionally for ages as typical village settlements. In the last several years this community is becoming a very attractive place for living. A lot of houses for permanent living have been built and there is a tendency to become an elite settlement. 

There are also about 1000 individual house for a periodical stay i.e. as weekend houses. The houses mostly spread along the road and they are of modern seismic type but there are also traditional houses.

As it is mentioned before the houses are traditional, typically Macedonian urban houses mostly not tall, consisting of first and second floor. They are made of stone, wooden roof and enclosed porch with stairs towards south from where you can enter every room on that floor. The roofs are covered with tiles. The yards are surrounded by not very tall walls made of stone and there are also stables, sheds and garages. 30 % of the houses are seismic. The number of the houses correspond with the number of the inhabitants. The only problem is that they take a lot of fertile soil.
