Had a meeting at 3:00 pm with the education coordinator of the HSCA today in Woodbury. We discussed my pet information, and I have the info to revise it with.

2/13/05

Today my mom and I distributed 60 flyers around the block, down Edgebrook and Morningside.

2/14/05

Went to a meeting for Boy Scout Troop #216 to announce this Saturday's flyering--breakfast, with service hours for advancement. Hoping for a few scouts to show up! I handed out flyers that I made, so I'm hoping they'll reach the parents before they get lost.

2/19/05

Today is the day the Boy Scouts in Troop 216 were invited to come at 9 am for breakfast, and we were going to flyer from 9:30 until 10:30 or 11 am. Mike Lund showed up along with Josh, myself, and my parents. The five of us flyered the area between Ruth and McKnight, Upper Afton and Larry Ho. We did that, and this afternoon my mom and I went and finished Edgebrook, then went through Dellridge and Kipling. We did a total of 263 flyers today, ending up with 177 at the end.

2/25/05

My mom put out flyers on the parts we missed during the last flyer-a-thon, including parts of Upper Afton, McKnight, and the two cul-de-sacs on McKnight. Started out with 177 flyers, came back with 131, putting out a total of 46.

2/27/05

I redid the animal information, as stated by the vet and HSCA education coordinator at our meeting earlier (dogs, cats, small animals, cavies/rabbits, and spay/neuter info). Also updated all the webpages for those, and the printer-friendly version. That took a while (7 hours total), but it was well worth it.

2/28/05

Today, my mom and I distributed flyers directly west of BC Elementary (BC Regional Park & Rec), and went down Sandra Lee as well as Darlene. We started out with 131 flyers, and ended up with 30. (Yes, that means we did 101 flyers--yay!) That took an hour or so, and we hope to finish up the last thirty tomorrow. I also emailed the education coordinator my revised information today.

3/5/05

My mom, dad, Josh, and I went out and collected all the donations throughout the area today. We got back 52 donations out of the 470 flyers/bags we put out. That's about 11%--not bad. Thanks to everyone who donated! We also separated all the supplies into pet supplies and other supplies. For the pet supplies, those were put into dog, cat, and small animal items. We made kits out of each of the categories, after dividing them up into food, treats, toys, balls, chew toys, etc. We tried to make all the kits equivalent to one another, or as much so as possible. We put these into plastic bags for now. The supplies that were too big for the kits, or that we thought would be better off used directly by the shelter (bags of food, large bags of treats and chew toys, and a few leashes and collars) were set aside to be donated to the shelter for use there. The other supplies were divided into sewing supplies (needles, thread, and cloth) and supplies for the shelter (glass cleaner, bleach, detergent, towels, and washcloths). The shelter supplies were put with the other supplies for donation to the shelter. The sewing supplies are set aside for caddy making.

3/6/05

Today I redid all of my hours list, which was a big task. I reorganized my binder a bit, getting everything that was in folders or on top of the binder inside somewhere. I printed off new pet information sheets, just how they'll be in the finished kits. I typed up a cover letter for the kits as well. Just finished that, and I'm going to get those into the binder right now.

3/12/05

To date, I have received three more donations after the deadline. I have redone several dog kits with some of these donations. I've cut much of the material, and three volunteers have graciously accepted making 25 bags from this material and from the ribbon I have cut. This will be due 4/23, but that is a very lenient date. I cut all of the ribbon yesterday, and I've just printed off the instructions for them as well. I'm going to try and add the pictures we took of the project to the pictures page today. I'll see how far I get!

From 3/12-4/2/05

I sewed my kits, and received 25 from two out of three of the volunteers. I also received 6 from an out-of-state friend, which was really cool! I printed out all the information, cover letters, links, tags, etc. and stapled them into packets for the kits. I added cavy care information brochures to both guinea pig/rabbit kits and to the small animal kit. I also added cavy adoption flyers to these as well. One is also at the local vet's office. We have a total of 90 kits, including 1 small animal, 2 guinea pig/rabbit, 40 dog, and 40 cat. That's 84 total!

Went shopping for supplies, and finished up six more dog kits and another cat kit. I also found enough extra supplies for one more cat kit. Now we have 1 small animal, 2 guinea pig/rabbit, 46 dog, and 42 cat kits. That's 91 total! So far, I've put together all of the kits for the caddies I've received--75 total.

4/2/05

Went shopping for pet supplies, and got materials for 4 more kits, and got a free 5-lb bag of Science Diet dog chow from a coupon ! I shopped really well, so we got the dog chow free (was $9.99), a four-pack of cat ball toys for $1.79 (were $1.99), three toy mice for $0.48 (were $1.99), two stuffed toys for $0.68 (were $2.99), and four 13-oz cans of cat food for $0.59 each. The total w/tax came up to $6.24, not bad at all for four kits! I also found enough extra materials to make one more cat kit. Now we have a total of 96, including 47 cat, 1 small animal, 2 guinea pig/rabbit, and 46 dog.

4/3/05

Today I took inventory of everything I've collected--all the supplies in the kits and that are going to the shelter. That took 5 hours, spread out through the afternoon and evening, even into the night for the final inventory. I'll be making a page with this information on it soon.

4/26/05

Delivered pet supplies and kits to the humane society in Woodbury--yay! I might be part of their news, so check the site in the coming weeks.

January 06

I have officially won my Girl Scout Gold Award--yeah!!! Haha, and all I got for my efforts (so far) was a ripped-up postcard. How amazing. Not that I did it for the award...
