1. Rob Tejeda (3/24/82) was signed by the Phillies as a free agent out of Puerto Rico in 1998. Followed up two weak seasons in the GCL with a "great leap forward" after an unexpected promotion to Lakewood in 2001 entrenched him in the rotation. He has continued to grow in 2002, a fact hid by the atrocious offense behind him, and the fact that there were better pitchers on the team -- even though they had awful records as well. His 2003 record was mediocre, and he wasn't protected or taken in the Rule 5 draft. Look for him to get a crack at Reading in 2004. (updated 12/20/02) (Back to the Phillies' Depth Chart)

  4. Evan Thomas (6/14/74) was the Phillies' 10th round pick in the 1996 amateur draft. At one time prospect material when he debuted for Scranton in 1998, Thomas instead become the hard-luck pitcher, leading the International League in losses in 2001 with 13. Although a solid AAA pitcher, there are better options for the Phillies. Thomas was not re-signed as a 6 year minor league free agent, and caught on with the Blue Jays.
