Asciians

Long ago, before the chaos war there was a group of proto-humans calling themselves Asciians. This group of humans survived in the chaos and war torn Norfidia using a specail brand of magic, surprisingly strong in some aspects but utterly lacking in others. These strange magics frightened and upset the existing chaos mages of the land and the leadership of the Asciians became subject to endless suspicion. Eventually the Asciians were driven from their homes by angry mobs and onto a large island in the Norfidian sea which they vowed they would not be driven from. When the chaos war began and the kingdoms of the elves swept away the old enemies of the Asciians there was much rejoicing, but when the dust settled the Lattux refused to distinguish the Asciians from other chaos races. Many fierce battles were fought between the fleets of these nations. Then, either by an effort of the Crystal mages to banish the asciians, or the Asciian psychics to protect their homes, the island disappeared. Millenia later, rumors have been heard that the asciians have returned to Norfidia. According to legend, the average Asciian is human, but with gnomish qualities-a quick wit, slightly decreased stature, and a top-heavy appearance due to the oversized head.
