SOUND TRACKS REVIEWS

THE COMMITMENTS

Now I am well aware that most of my choices are not very current but this is just crap I have in my collection that I think should stand up and be counted or whatever.

Good movie. Not much going on but life doesn't need to be all excitement does it? This one is about some poor Irish kids trying to make it as a band. I think the actors in the movie actually recorded all these songs. There was a tour from what I can remember. Hell, they may still be touring. Not a bad song on this one. It doesn't rock but it's no slouch. "Mustang Sally", "Chain of Fools", "Destination Anywhere", "Try a Little Tenderness", "In the Midnight Hour" and "Mr. Pitiful" stand out. The rest is just good clean fun. Check it out if you come across it.

DRACULA 2000

Okay lets face it, this movie blows! But seriously I could look at Johnnie Lee Miller modeling trash bags and still be entertained. He's just way hot. And who doesn't love slutty looking vampire chicks writhing around on the ceiling?

This soundtrack is hard ass and very cool. You've got your Powerman 5000, Disturbed, Slayer (we know you secretly love the Slayer), System of a Down, Monster Magnet, Saliva, Linkin Park, Taproot, etc. Seriously, I need to unwind by watching Olympic syncronized swimming after this one. All I'm saying is check it out or those vampire chicks might come get you in your sleep. Hey, but isn't one of them Daisy Fuentes? That might be o.k. afterall.

Sweet dreams,

GONE IN 60 SECONDS

I'm hoping I don't lose cred like immediately for this one! I liked this movie. Cool cars, a hot chick and my next ex-husband (he just doesn't know it yet) Vinnie Jones - Sphinx - the dude that doesn't talk. Who could resist the eyecandy this pinata is spewing?

The soundtrack is something to cruise to. It has it's slow spots but the songs fit and wind right back up with something hip hop or techno-ish. The opening track The Cult "Painted on my Heart" is a great way to open this disc. Ice Cube's "Roll all Day" and DMX "Party Up" keep the pace and by the time you get to Apollo 4-40's "Stop the Rock" you are probably about to get a speeding ticket. With BT, The Chemical Brothers, Moby, Groove Armada and a few others worth mentioning but I won't...go buy it! Beware of the PG-13 lyrics. You may not want your 5 year old singing along with DMX...maybe this would be a good time to apologize to Miss Margo at G's school, ooooppppps!

THE FAST & THE FURIOUS

This movie SHO ain't winnin no awards. OMG have you ever seen such bad acting?! So bad I'd like to turn that Vin Diesel over my knee and...oh wait, I need to stop right there.

This soundtrack is pretty pumpin. For all you doughy, backward, red cap wearin dudes, there is a hard version of "Rollin" - Limp Bizkit, DMX, Redman & Method Man. Ja Rule kicks it with a DePeche Mode funk in "Life ain't a Game", "Put it on Me-Remix" is also a good jam from Ja Rule. I'm diggin on the version of "Justify my Love" by Vita and "Good Life-Remix" Faith Evans. All in all solid stuff. This is cool cruisin tunes especially if you have one of those little cars that scrape the ground when you hit a speed bump, oooooppppps, did I say that out loud? I'm just playin, it's all good!

A KNIGHT'S TALE - This is such a cool movie. Seriously, I didn't think I'd like it but it was one of those "nothing else on so I'll get my $'s worth out of HBO & watch a movie I'm paying for anyway" nights. Again, Heath Ledger could also model trash bags and I'm there!

So this one's all about the classic rock. The movie uses modern music well with the period piece it tries to be. Queen's "We Will Rock You" and a new version of "We are the Champions" with Robbie Williams on vocals. Not bad. No soundtrack that includes "Low Rider" could ever be anything but bad ass. You also get a dose of BTO "Takin' Care of Business", David Bowie "Golden Years", Heart, Clapton, Rare Earth, and one of my personal favorites Thin Lizzy "The Boys are Back in Town". This one is definitely worth having in the car on the way home for those days when work really sux. Turn it up!

SID & NANCY

Ahhhhh, one dear to my heart. I can't tell you how many times I have seen Sid & Nancy - from that we get "Love Kills". I can relate.

Anyway...I am just overjoyed that Gary Oldman sings on this one. I think he is one of the best actors like EVER. "I Wanna be your Dog" and "My Way" are actually pretty entertaining. I'm just hoping Gary isn't looking to quit his day job anytime soon. Title track "Love Kills" by the late GREAT Joe Strummer, is a cool tune while "Love Kills" (different song) by the Circle Jerks is equally as cool but in a different way. The Pogues also have a couple on here. This disc doesn't quite rock but it is a good one to listen to when you are feeling sorry for yourself. Most of us can be pretty thankful our everyday lives aren't nearly as screwed up as Sid & Nancy's...or are they?

Hopefully this job will satisfy my artistic needs-watch the movie!
