Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan

Thank you for taking an interest in our studio and art form. Clyde’s Karate has been in operation since August of 2002. We are part of a world wide organization called Moo Duk Kwan, one of the most recognized and respected martial arts Federation in the world. The Moo Duk Kwan system (a brotherhood and school of stopping inner and outer conflict and developing virtue through Soo Bahk Do training) was founded in Seoul, Korea in 1945, by the legendary Grand Master Hwang Kee. Since that time, through hard work and dedication, his Moo Do system has reached almost every point on the globe. With Grand Master Hwang Kee’s passing in 2002, H.C. Hwang (his son) was appointed as the President Of World Moo Duk Kwan to live out our founder’s legacy and dreams It is easy to assume negative things about martial arts. It is unfortunate to say that television programs, movies, and other venues have adversely influenced the true meaning of martial arts. The ultimate goal of the martial arts is the balanced development of mind, body, and spirit. Grand Master Hwang Kee’s vision for the future of our organization is world peace through improved human relations. To some this may seem a very unrealistic goal. To others, it is a goal that is reaching fulfillment. World peace starts with individuals. A person that is positive, happy, respectful, and courteous shines their energy onto others. These are personality traits that become addictive. It must start with each of us in order to broaden the extreme horizons. These are just some of the qualities that the Moo Duk Kwan system teaches. Confidence, self control, discipline, honesty, humility, and courage are other very important traits developed in a true martial art. The physical act of self defense is such a minor part of a balanced martial art; anyone that tells you otherwise does not truly understand its meaning.

Here at Clyde’s Karate, we offer a variety of self defense programs. All of our classes are non-contact under the guidance of Master Timothy Clyde, a 4th Degree Midnight Blue Belt (Soo Bahk Do’s equivalent to black belt). At Clyde’s Karate we stress the importance of being better people, to avoid conflict at all costs, and to shine our inner happiness to others who may have difficulty finding it. This is what the Moo Duk Kwan system is all about. Self defense is just a highlighted tool that is learned throughout your journey. We welcome you to come observe or participate in a free class.
