If you clicked on this page first, perhaps you should check out the Problems page.
The archaic Java applet can be replaced with a more modern email client.
ODU's big secret is that they also use Lotus iNotes, a better looking
and non-Java client. You can go to this link HERE
to request that your account be converted to iNotes.
Fixing the rich text applet is pretty simple...make it default.
This way, you can just start typing away all fancy like. The iNotes
client defaults to Rich Text. Refer to the link is solution number 1
for the link to convert your email client to iNotes.
To fix student announcements, make it optional for students. If students
want to know what is going on, they can look it up or request to be informed.
Also, a block sender option could also put a quick end to them.
attachment solution will be solved when more testing regarding iNotes
and files is done.
Solving the forwarding issue is pretty simple as well. Allow users to log
in and be able to send. Setting email to forward somewhere else should not
block users from being able to use their account otherwise.
A logout button is very necessary for security reasons. Lotus Domino, the old
email client, doesn't have this but iNotes does. Refer to the link
in solution number 1 on how to convert your account to iNotes.
Overall, it's easy to say that the quick fix for many of these problems is to
just make iNotes the default client instead of ye olde Lotus Domino. Another
thing for the web saavy is to start a POP3 server allowing users to access email
through programs such as Microsoft Outlook.
