The Big Problems

Here, you will find a list of problems we, and a cast of thousands, have compiled with the ODU email system. Solutions can be found on the Solutions page.
1: The archaic Java applet used with Lotus Domino is...archaic. On older systems, slower connections, or for people who just don't want to change their security settings, the applet doesn't load.
2: If a user wants to send a email that is not just in the default Courier font and add things like bold or italic (in other words "rich text") they have to go to another form to run the Rich Text applet.
3: The school sponsored spam known as Student Announcements clogs many user's mailboxes. Those that only recently started using the email, though being in school for years, are finding that mail sent is not getting into their Inbox since it is filled with these announcements.
4: Users are limited to two attachments of very small size. One can assume this is a way to maintain server stabillity but it is grossly inconvenient for classes where large files are necessary. Other times, the attachments aren't working at all and do not attach to outgoing mail.
5: A major problem is the issue of forwarding. Forwarding is good in the way that a user doesn't have to check multiple email accounts but with good there is always bad. Users can only receive ODU email but may not send out. This is bad for classes where the professor only accepts mail from an ODU account (coughComm472cough)
6: The lack of a logout also hurts users logging on in public computer labs. Depending on the settings or if the user forgets to log off the LAN, nothing is preventing the next user of that computer from accessing the previous user's email.
