Lotus Notes is defined as "a powerful message-based application from Lotus Development Corporation that offers advanced message delivery and document handling capabilities, including database replication." ( pg. 263) Lotus Notes can also be described as "an inherently distributed document database with an exceptionally rich set of front-end database and interface design tools that let end-users manipulated and distribute shared information." (pg. 215)
Lotus Notes uses software like spreadsheets, database, word processing and for the purposes of our research e-mail. Lotus Notes was built to be able to handle multiple users at multiple locations. "Electronic mail is Notes’ primary delivery mechanism and therefore completely essential to its operation." (pg. 216) The programs that best support Lotus Notes are Windows, OS/2, Macintosh, and different UNIX programs.
