POISON IVY / POISON OAK
- Squeeze the juice from the jewelweed onto all areas affected by the poison ivy or oak. ( See the accompanying picture.) This usually grows near where the poison ivy is. This is a very effective remedy..
- The plant’s oil can be spread by scratching, on the fur of pets, from clothing shoes and tools, guns etc. It can be washed off with soap and water within 15 minutes on the skin.
-Itch inhibitors include:
Baking soda paste ( can be combined with witch hazel )
Cornstarch paste
Oatmeal paste ( Make powder in a coffee grinder or food processor for better consistency
Calamine lotion
Baking soda mixed with buttermilk
Run hot water over the area for 2-3 seconds.
Take 500- 1000 mg of vitamin C every 2 hours.
