Our Ducks

This is our oldest duck, Norm. He is a Rouen duck, which is a domesticated breed. He looks just like a mallard, only much bigger. He is 13 months old. Norm lives in the backyard in a pen where he loves to swim in his kiddie pool. Sometimes he is very grumpy and will latch onto any loose skin he can find. One time he tried to attack one of our miniature horses and it kicked Norm and broke his leg. Now we call him the "$500 wonder duck" because that was how much the vet bills added up to after we got his leg fixed. He recently had a run-in with a rabid raccoon, which cost us another $50 in vet bills. We are now in the process of building a new duck pen that is closer to the house, and is big enough for Norm and our new babies.

Here are Howard and Daisy on 4/22/03 as babies. Daisy is a female Indian runner duck. Her legs are set a little farther back than other ducks, so she runs instead of waddling. Her birthday is 4/21/03. Howard is a male White Pekin duck. He is named after Howard the Duck from the movie "Howard the Duck." His birthday is 4/18/03.

This is our newest duck Lucky. She is a female Rouen. We rescued her from some asshole at a local flea market who was severely mistreating her. She is just a few months old right now.

And here are all four of them happily digging their faces in the mud in the backyard on 8/7/03.
