Late September and time for
everyone to don casual clothes and trainers and head off into Edgbarrow
woods. The sponsored walk was a long standing tradition which used to held
on alternate years until funds grew short.
For staff, the only thing worse than the
walk taking place was the walk being cancelled due to bad weather. What do
you do with a class who have no books for their afternoon lessons and have
spent weeks building up the idea of missing your class?

The
route headed through Edgbarrow woods, past Broadmoor, and up the gradual
hill in the picture until it joined The Devil's Highway. Each year the
Head was faced with the question - what do do if the Broadmoor alarm goes
off during the walk? I don't think there was an answer. Above: a trio of
teachers chase up their year group. Spot Mr Evans, Mr Fitch and Miss Rowan
(soon to become Mrs Perry) |
