That
evening we returned, tired out and a little damp, to our field in the
woods. It was a chance to peel off sticky waterproofs and time for a
change of socks. Some sought sanctuary in their tents, others preferred
the 'comforts' of the log cabin. Left: Trudy, Jess and Gordon dry out in the kitchen. |

Entertainment
that night was whatever we could come up with, and a fire seemed a good
place to start. The woods were scoured for dry twigs, and we soon had a
small blaze to stare at. There were a few jokes told, and an attempt at
singing, but the most fun came from trying to avoid the smoke. Right: This separated the pyromaniacs from the boys. Tim, Steven, Adam, Caroline and Alastair add more fuel to the flames. |

The
next morning things had dried out a little. One tent of boys woke up in
the far corner of the field after a midnight move necessitated by their
desire to keep the rest of the site awake. For the rest there was a chance
of a more leisurely breakfast and an opportunity to allow blisters to
recover from the day before.Left: Lisa and Claire in their luxurious accommodation, provided courtesy of Edgbarrow Youth Centre. |

Sunday's
entertainment started with a morning of sport. Football and rounders were
the main events, and enthusiasm varied greatly, depending on how much
sleep people had had the night beforeRight: Laura, Lisa, Ben, Steven and Tim show an unusual interpretation of the rules of football. |

For
Kate, the game of rounders was interupted by a bout of stomach pains that
resulted in calls to the doctor and parents. The doctor arrived first and
declared himself to be mystified as to the cause, until he saw the kitchen
in which yesterday's meal had been produced. She went home to an early
bath.
