My
memory is not good enough to recall when this trip took place, although
the year was almost certainly 1992, and the end of second year. It was
open to 2T, who were joined by a few friends from other forms to make up
numbers.
Transport to the site was provided by staff and parents, with various over-laden cars arriving late on Friday afternoon. Above: Claire and Caroline |

First
job was pitching the assorted tents which had been begged, borrowed and
stolen for the weekend. Fortunately there was plenty of daylight left.
Left: Clare, Sue and Johnny struggle with the poles. |

The
main accommodation on site was a log cabin, which looked great but its
facilities were limited to a dodgy flush toilet and a couple of dim gas lamps. Dinner on the first night was spaghetti, prepared with great care (and by torchlight) by Miss Kent and her sixth form helpers. |

With
the meal out of the way and the room full of happy campers, Kevin
volunteered for washing up duty - no mean feat if you could see the state
of the pans.
That night a few of Mr W's friends turned up to organise an outdoor game which involved stalking each other through the woods in darkness and trying not to fall in a ditch. Some evaded capture until well after the game had ended, others opted for the comfort of their tents at the earliest opportunity. All that was left was cocoa time, and everyone being tucked up safe and sound for a good night's sleep... Oh yeah? Who am I kidding? There then followed a couple of hours of chatting, calling between tents and furtive attempts on the part of one or two boys to decamp to the girls' tent next door. Sanity was restored not long after midnight. |
