Culinary Knowledge
Well, I have to put my culinary skills/knowledge to good use. So, I'm going to use this page for tips, useless and USEFUL info and maybe someone will gain something from it!
- Carrots, Onions, and Celery are referred to as a "mire poix."
- Bananas, apples, and potatoes will not brown if you put a small amount of lemon juice on them (or cover them with water).
- Sundried tomatoes are best rehydrated with sherry cooking wine.
- Never poor alcohol into a pot/pan over a flame - especially if it's in the bottle!
- You can make anything with a bechamel, brown sauce, marinara sauce, and veloute.
- Cut with the claw! Never lay your hand flat! Especially with carrots!
- Baking soda is not baking powder!
- Shortening does not melt, therefore, it never comes off of anything!
- Never eat chinese food for a week straight.
- You can burn soup!
- Don't stand too close to the broiler.
- Dead, rotten, seafood smells like ass!
- Base, base, and more base.
- Getting covered in chocolate to make little tiny balls is fun!
- Tempering chocolate is not fun.
- There's a huge difference between salted and unsalted butter
- It takes approximately 1 hour to make 150 butter roses!
- Cucumbers and croutons are empty calories.
- French onion soup should not look like the bottom of your dirty mop bucket.
- Using week old seafood salad will not bring the customers in
- If you want baklava, make it yourself.
- Chinese tea is soooo addicting.
- Raw fruit unwashed can do horrible things to a stomach.
- Don't blame raw fruit for your own "back up."
- Cooking is fun ~ when you don't do it for a living!
- Lemon juice and capers.... lemon juice and capers.....
- All it takes to get through college is easy mac and ramen noodles (eh syd?!)
- Eating a fancy lunch and dinner at 9:30 in the morning is not healthy!
- Tuna on wheat with potato chips = wholesome goodness
- Tuna on wheat with potato chips after beer does not equal wholesome goodness!!
