This page lists the activities you will perform for the collecting
and describing data project. You
will have five weeks to complete the assignment. The websites will provide you with valuable information that
is needed to complete the assignment.

1.SPREADSHEET |
Ø Create a spreadsheet using excel with 3 columns. Label the columns date, high temperature and low temperature. Ø Title your spreadsheet Cleveland temperatures. Ø Save your spreadsheet on the classroom superdisk. Ø Use your initials and your class code as the name of the document |
2. DATA COLLECTION |
Ø Record the high and low temperature for Cleveland,
Ohio on your spreadsheet two days per week for one month. Ø Use the following sites to gather your data. |
3. DISPLAY DATA |
Ø Open the spreadsheet. Using the tool bar select Data, then chart. Ø Create a double line graph, be sure to include a title and label each axis. Ø Include this graph on the same page as your spreadsheet chart. Ø Be sure to save your work on the superdisk. Ø A sample chart is posted next to the classroom computer. Ø Print your work. |
4. INTERPRET DATA |
Ø In a word document, write a good clear definition of mean, mode, median, and range. Ø Find the mean, mode, median and range of the data that you collected. Ø Use these sites to better understand these statistical terms. |
5. CONCLUSIONS |
Ø Write a paragraph about this data. What did you learn? Make sure you note any trends in the weather changes over the month. Also compare the low and high temperatures. Was the difference between the two consistent? |
6. EXTRA PRACTICE |
Ø Try the games at the aaamath web site for extra practice on calculating mean, median, mode and range. |
7. COMPLETED PROJECT |
Ø Hand in the following items. v Spreadsheet chart and line graph. v Definitions and calculations of mean, mode, median, range. v Conclusions paragraph. Ø Due date will be posted next to the computer. Ø This assignment is due 5 weeks from the start of data collection. |
