Andrea's Realm Tribute
to The Undertaker (Mark Calaway)

To you, the viewer,

I would first like to say that I am a huge Undertaker Fan. I do not personally know Mr. Calaway and he is no way connected with this site or with me other than Fan Appreciation!  Also, I have met Mr. Pringle twice at wrestling shows in my local area and he is a very nice man with an awesome site. Go check it out! He is not connected with me or this site either. He did allow me to use his quote that is on the bottom of this page since I emailed him and asked for permission. Once I get more time, I am going to make him a better page and add one for a few other wrestlers!

Thanks,
Andrea

More Information On The Man

"From 1984 to 1988 Mark Calaway, The WWE's Undertaker, wrestled as "Commando" for Central Illinois Wrestling, CIW, a promotion out of Illinois.
At the time, Calaway was living in TX. During the week he attended a private, Methodist college, Wesleyan University, in Ft Worth, where he majored in Sports Management and played basketball for the school team, the Rams. At night he worked as a bouncer in a bar.

On Weekends, Calaway would drive from Houston to Chicago to work shows for .00 a night. He would wrestle in Chicago as well as all over the state. Yes, you read that right, the man would drive over a thousand miles for a match...not once or twice but regularly. Now there is dedication for you.

In case you were wondering....Mark Calaway has been wrestling for about 17 years (as of 2003) which is longer than often presumed."

"*Taker Tidbits*

--The Undertaker's wrestling debut in the WWE was during the Survivor Series of 1990. He was part of Ted DiBiase's "Million Dollar Dream Team" and was first managed by Brother Love. Later, Paul Bearer became his manager, an off and on union since 1991.

--Before coming to the WWE, Mark Calaway also wrestled in NWA/WCW as part of the Skyscrapers tag team with Dan Spivey under the name "Mean" Mark Callous, replacing Sid Vicious. The Skyscrapers manager was Teddy Long, who is now a WWE referee.

--It was said that he was released from the WCW because they didn't think he would be a good draw on a card.

--Calaway trained with the Von Erich family in Dallas, Texas. You can't get much better than that. His professional wrestling career began in 1985 in the USWA.
--The top-rope walk, one of UT's most famous moves, was taught to him by Don Jardine. (Thanks to Yunomi for that tidbit)

--Pat Patterson, known as the 1st WWE Intercontinental Champion and one of Vince's on-air stooges, is said to be the one who came up with the character of The Undertaker.

--The original Undertaker character was patterned after morticians in the West.

--The Undertaker's major feuds in the WWE have included such wrestlers as Diesel, Yokozuna, Kama, Shawn Michaels, Mankind, Kane, Steve Austin, and Ultimate Warrior.

--He is a 4- time WWE Heavyweight/Undisputed Champion. He defeated Hulk Hogan (1991), Psycho Sid (1997), Steve Austin (1999), and Hogan (2002) for them.

--Taker is a 6- time WWE Tag Team champion. He won them partnered with Steve Austin once, The Rock once, Kane twice, and Paul Wight twice. He's also held the WCW tag belts with Kane the same time they had the WWE tag belts, unifying them.

--He also was the WWE Hardcore Champion.

--Matches associated with the Undertaker are the "Hell in the Cell", Casket, Inferno, and Buried Alive. The most famous "Hell in the Cell" occurred June 12, 1998 at the King of the Ring against Mankind. Many consider this one of the best wrestling matches ever just for sheer brutality purposes. Mick was thrown 20 feet from the top of the cage to the Spanish announcer's table. And, in an unplanned incident, he was chokeslammed through the top of the cage to the ring. It was a brutal match, with both Mick and Calaway putting their injuries aside to make it through the match.

--When the Taker isn't in the ring, he does a little acting on the side. He co-starred as a bounty hunter (Hutch) in Suburban Commando with that symbol of 80's wrestling Hulk Hogan and as the Soul Chaser in an episode of Poltergeist: The Legacy. He was also the voice for his claymation likeness in the Celebrity Deathmatch Halloween special. And, he did a damn fine job at all of these, may I add. Of course, I may be a bit biased.

--The Taker also has a track on WrestleMania the Album, bought by me anonymously through a music club (I have little shame; but I have enough not to pick this up in an establishment I frequent). It's number 6 and called "The Man in Black." I'm just grateful that he kept his day job. After that one, I had to cleanse my ears and soul.

--Some of the stuff out of the ring that Calaway digs is boxing (and was an amateur one, I believe), football, guns (told ya he was a redneck), bikes (we ain't talking Huffy ones, either), blues music, steak, and The Sopranos."

Just a little more on the Dead Man

"We, the Creatures of the Night, fans named by The Undertaker himself, fully stand behind The Undertaker, aka The American Badass (Mark Calaway), however, we duly MISS our beloved Deadman. The Legacy that Mark forged, was stripped away in one moment--when Vince McMahon uttered the words, "Mark Calaway believes he IS this character, the Undertaker!"

Creatures, we cannot allow Mark's Legacy that he's built to be ruined. The American Badass is great in that it proved to Mark that he could make it on his own, without the spooky lights, music and makeup. However, now that he's proved that to himself, it is time to come back.

Come home to us, Undertaker. We have been here all along. Give your new fans a chance to see what you were all about. Thrill us once again with your awesome presence and acting skills.
"Move back, so that we can move forward," as you told us back in March 1997. Give us what we have been waiting for--for so long. We will never rest in peace without you, and we refuse to let YOU rest in peace, either.

Don't forget about Paul Bearer

(Percy Pringle III)
"The call to The World Wrestling Federation came on December 22, 1990. Enter the character known as Paul Bearer. I remained with The WWE for just short of twelve years, associating myself with The Undertaker, Kane, Vader, and Mankind (Mick Foley). Known as "The Manager Of Champions", I was fortunate to be able to perform in over 25 countries around the world, and in 47 of the fifty states, including Alaska and Hawaii. I was also named 1998 Manager Of The Year, by Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazine.
After my ten-year on-air stint with WWE television, I traded my dyed cold black hair for my natural color; something that my wife and kids had never seen. During my final two years with the federation, I stayed busy backstage during television events as an agent and stage manager. I also assisted in the federations Talent Development Department, where I scouted future ring talent. I officially retired from The WWE on October 14, 2002."

This is taken from the words of Percy Pringle III. Please go see his site.
