Wendigo is a 2001 film by Larry Fessendin isn't exactly a slasher, although people do die. It's set in the wintry upstate New York woods. The movie revolves around a little boy, his father and weird sightings of a half deer-half human presence near a cabin in the woods. The movie is sort of slow as we watch a father, son and mother bond. One day when they are in town a local Native American man gives the son a miniature figure of a "Wendigo" and tells him the story behind it.

It seems from then on the boy has weird visions of the Wendigo and starts to fear for his life. The movie gets even weirder once we find out that the local people are behind it all. The movie has some of the best photography I have ever seen in a horror movie, and some familiar faces.

Silent Scream is no masterpiece, but it is a slasher movie set in a remote cabin in the winter. The killer does a great job of disposing naked teens with an ax- a really good slasher fot this era.
The American Scream is basically a low budget "Children Of The Corn" on acid. The movie takes place in the cold mountains if California and revolves around a family on a vacation. The "Benzigers" won an all inclusive trip to a Winter resort called "Wilson Creek". Unbeknownst to them the town is run by adults who have a distaste for children, teens and their ways.

Once the movie gets going we learn that the resort was made to be a place where parents can take their unruly children and basically have them killed. Once the Benziger kids get a whiff of this with the help from town loon brilliantly played by George "Buck" Flower, they turn on the local adults and take the town over for themselves.

I won't say this is a great movie, but it is a fun movie chock full of one liners and unintentional humor.
Black Christmas is sometimes credited as the first true slasher movie, and the movie that inspired Halloween (1978). I think Black Christmas is far from a perfect movie and is quite boring. However, Black Christmas is a great Winter set movie with an amazing atmosphere once you get past all of the dull boring parts.

Bob Clark proves his directing ability with this movie, and it does have some kills, most are fast or offscreen. I'm ranking this movie #8 solely based on the direction and not the movie itself. I'm not a huge fan of Black Christmas, but it is a great watch on a cold snowy Winter's night.
So, go ahead and kill me now for ranking Jim Wynorski's opus Cheerleader Massacre above Black Christmas. Cheerleader Massacre isn't at all better than Black Christmas, but it's a movie that I found super entertaining- something Black Christmas did not offer to me. Cheerleader Massacre is basically a sorta-not really indirect sequel of the cult franchise Slumber Party Massacre, bringing back Brink Stevens along with other well known B-movie heroines.

The movie takes place in a mountain cabin with a wintry atmosphere that pretty much is used to it's full advantage. The movie is to-the-brim full of boobs, blood and babes- a true Wynorski flick.
Horror is one of the most underrated horror films of all time. Set in an abandon winter cabin, inside of a weird town full of psychotic religious folk, the movie is a true visionary experience. The director, Dante' Tomaselli brings ups through a cold atmosphere set around Halloween, and really creates an ominous tone that to this day I haven't seen replicated in independent horror cinema.

The movie itself is sort of hard to follow at times, and even sorta falls short of a scare. Even though it was shot on DV, it still has that gritty feel of a seventies horror flick. It's still a great movie for a cold wintry night.
Abominable really isn't a slasher, more of a creature movie but it still delivers some really nifty fills and it's fair share of blood. Directed by Ryan Shifrin, Abominable is a fast paced film set in a cabin (sound familiar) in the snowy confines of an abandon area of the woods. The plot is simple, and it revolves around a paralyzed writer coming back to his cabin retreat in hopes of spotting Big Foot, something that he saw years back and hopes to see again. Once Big Foot surfaces again, he pretty much kills everything in his way, including a house full of parting teens next door.

Abominable is a fun, blood soaked horror movie full of cameos from horror stars like Jeffrey Combs, Tiffany Shepis, Dee Wallace, Lance Henrickson and Paul Gleason. The monster looks like shit, but that made it that much more funny. Such an underrated movie.
The Boogens is simple, in a mining town in snowy Colorado, some people open up an abandon mine and unleash a demonic force dubbed 'The Boogens" by the locals. Those creatures wreak havoc on the town and are eventually are defeated. Simple plot, but one of my favorite popcorn movies of the era. It's hard to talk about this movie without mentioning how cheesy it is and how ridiculous "The Boogens" look.

To this day The Boogens is a solid Winter set horror movie, and it's definitely the most underrated movie on this list.

Plasterhead is probably one of the most overlooked slashers of the past 2 years. Set in a remote West Virginia town in the Winter, we have another masked villain slicing and dicing teens. Plasterhead has a great atmosphere and was filmed in Blairstown, NJ- where Friday The 13th (1980) was filmed. It even has scenes from two locations from that movie. Fun, fun watch.
Another entry I will probably get hell about, Shredder is in my opinion of of the best and the most disrespected slasher movies in the 2000's. Shredder has everything those 1980's slashers had; an abandon cabin setting, nice and bloody kills, slutty teens who get naked, dumb cops and a nice masked killer. Shredder pretty much keeps you guessing who the killer is until the end and I think the movie is pretty well done. Novice director Jeff Huson did a great job with every aspect of the film.

The movie is set in an abandon cabin in the middle of a ski resort, and revolves around the shenanigans of snow boarders- a great movie to enjoy in the Winter!
One of the most controversial horror movies of it's time, Silent Night Deadly Night combines blood and boobs with a little bit of snow and Santa Claus. The movie revolves around a boy who witnesses his parents being killed by a Santa Claus impersonator as a kid. Growing up in a Catholic home for orphans and being abused by the nuns he grows up to be a killer Santa Claus himself.

Silent Night Deadly Night is one of my favorite all time slasher flicks. The movie has some of the best kills in any slasher, and the uncut version is the one to see. Very hard to place this #2, but I feel the #1 movie is more than worthy.
My Bloody Valentine is a slasher movie set in a small mining town during the Winter. The town no longer celebrates Valentines Day because of a Valentine's Day accident that killed a group of miners. Some years later they decide to have their first Valentine's Day dance when murder start to happen. When warnings start arriving in the form of Valentine's cards and chocolates the city decides to shut down the celebration. Once the town's rowdy teens and twenties find that out, they decide to have their own Valentine's Day dance in the mines. That's when they all start to die one-by-one.

The way I justify this being #1 is that My Bloody Valentine was all but neutered by the MPAA and remains almost completely goreless and still stands in my top 5 all time slasher movies. My Bloody Valentine has a great atmosphere, great kills and a very strong cast.
