- The change between Baroque and Classical music was more subtle than the change in art and architecture.
- Classical music was mainly homophonic, which means that at any one time in the piece, there is only one melody. Contrapuntal means multiple melodies are are going on at once.
- Simpler forms of organization were adapted (i.e. two and three part forms such as the sonata).
- The piano's ability to vary its dynamics made it the most popular instrument of the classical period.
