Lassay les Châteaux
is a small village that stands in the north of the Pays
de la Loire. It is within the Mayenne department
of France (53) and has an interesting and
proud history. However, today it is a vibrant market village, that
has retained much of it's original charm and character.
With a population
of just under 3,000 inhabitants, the village boasts not
one, but three Châteaux within the Canton. Two of
these Châteaux are now ruins but the third, situated in
the heart of the village, is a stunning example of
traditional French 15th century architecture. It's
vast, imposing turrets overlook the village lake
providing one of the most beautiful views in the region.
Lassay les Châteaux is surrounded by five other villages
that make up the 'Canton'. In addition, there are
also smaller hamlets within the Canton, many with their
own church and certainly with their own charm, that add
to the overall ambiance of the area.
Local life continues at an agreeable slow pace.
However. Lassay village centre has a good selection of small cafés, shops
and banks. Everything you may want is here.
Larger superstores are only 15 kilometres
away at both Mayenne and Le Ferté Macé.
Lassay Les Chateaux
is easily accessible by road, standing
on the D34 which runs between Mayenne and Couterne in
Normandy. It is just 90 minutes drive from
the ferry ports of Caen and St Malo and two
hours from the airport at Dinard.
There is a good selection of gites and other local
holiday accommodation available for rent, as well as
hotels in nearby larger towns.
