UNDER
12s 2004-2005

JULY 2005
Steve has proved to be a tough task
manager, but after initial doubts about whether he wanted to train us to play football, or to join the army, we decided that we would give him a go, as he did
seem to know what he was doing. After the initial shock of his training regime we are all (well, almost all) of
the opinion that this is what we need to produce good football skills, so we have tried hard to keep up his training
tasks, although we do think Andrew's training regime is much easier to follow, i.e. walk into sunbed booth, switch
on, stand still, walk out, don sunglasses and swagger about, glowing. On a serious note, we would like to take this
opportunity to thank Steve, our coach, and Andrew, his right hand man, for their time, commitment and patience during
their time running Garden Village Girls Under 12s. Steve has turned us into a formidable losing team, and by next
season we fully expect to be a formidable winning team. we look forward to next season, where we will play well
enough to ensure Steve keeps what is left of his hair, and to see if Andrew will actually turn orange.
(Only
joking!)
As parents of girls taking part must concede, although training is
unquestionably tough, it has definitely improved match fitness for the girls who turn up regularly, week in, week out. the girls
do actually enjoy these training sessions, even though they moan about them ! Coach Steve does appreciate the
commitment of these girls. Football training is going well, with a good turn-out, even though the season is
over. There is however, a suspicion that Steve and Tony are using this time for some sort of personal challenge (who
is the better coach/footballer), as they have now gone from coaching their respective teams at training sessions
to playing themselves, which has resulted in some very dubious decisions being made on the field as both coaches
want to prove how good they are. What they have failed to see, is that so far, the girls have out-classed them
both. Of course, I'm sure that they will claim that this is because they are both ace coaches, and have trained
their squads to perform to the best of their abilities, and not because the two of them are past it.
It has been noted by some spectators that during these training sessions, Steve
has some trouble explaining exactly what he wants the girls to do, which normally ends up with shouts of
"It's a shambles!", and much hair pulling. Of course, it would help (in our humble opinion), if he knew what he
wanted them to do, in the first place. However, now that Amy T is almost at eye level with him, the girls are thinking
of appointing her Team Rep., to help sort out any potential problems that might arise from this issue.
All things considered, Steve has been a great addition as coach, and has not
shown any sign of the behaviour
certain spectators (who wish to remain anonymous), have witnessed from Tony, who
has been seen to put down
cones in what he insists are straight lines, leading some to suspect that he
must like a tipple or two before
showing up for training. That said, Steve has not had a full season with these
girls yet !

MAY 2005

Pontardawe
U-12's Tournament May 2005
The weather was cold, wet and windy yet again, but on a brighter note the ref
appeared to be of a better disposition. Hoping to improve on previous
disappointments we welcome back Carys, giving the girls much needed confidence,
leaving them calm and focused, this immediately shows in their first match which
they hold to a draw.
Steve too appears much calmer, but we are unsure whether this is down to the
girls playing better or just having his other half by his side, (his other half
being Andrew and not his wife). Sensing that Steve's head
would remain intact today, as opposed to last times threatened explosion the
Village girls carry on to another draw.
It needs to be pointed out at this stage that the opposing teams had girls of
questionable age, leading some spectators to wonder if the coaches were playing
the mothers during a couple of the matches.
However, with the girls growing in confidence a goal would surely come , shots
came from all over , with even Amy Thomas ace defender having a go, then a shot
from Olivia goes in, can they hold it? YES a Win!!! They are through to to the
quarter finals. Sadly Rosie had to be stretchered off after injury to ankle
during an extremely hard tackle, we wish her a speedy recovery.
Even though tired, cold and wet facing a team of Amazon girls, Village showed no
fear with new girl Emma fitting in well. Playing their all Village were unlucky
to lose last match and whilst taking nothing away from the opposition, Josie
with a broken wrist, Jenna with bad ankle, Rosaria with an injured leg, Lorna
with her bad head, Chloe feeling sick with a bad chest, Amy-Marie soaked to the
bone and shivering, you do wonder if all players had been at peak fitness how
far they could have gone.
Finally the last plan for Jenna is not to gag her to stop her giving us all
headaches, but for her to infiltrate the opposition and then talk them off their
game. We wish Steve a happy holiday even though he will MISS the next
tournament, but I have it on the very best authority that Andrew will be ringing
him during matches to make sure he does not relax too much!

Lonlas U-12's Tournament May 2005
This is one of those tournaments that seemed doomed from the start. The weather
was damp and miserable which was only matched by the ref's mood and the only
source of heat to be found was coming off the head of Steve, as he battled with
his frustration.
There were a number of players unavailable for the tournament and one girl who
was to play with a broken arm, the inclusion of Katie sister of Lorna was much
appreciated. However the main concern for the girls was without doubt not having
Carys as their goal keeper. This alone seemed to throw the team into disarray
and their lack of focus showed on the pitch.
The team did however improve over the tournament, with the only goal (from
Garden Village) coming from Rosaria although there is a question mark over a
shot by Josie, which appeared to bounce over the line after hitting the post
(video evidence proved inconclusive).
The end result is possibly that we need to gag Jenna long enough to get her into
goalie gloves, as she did not do so badly and have her train as reserve goalie,
and finally Steve was seen to let the side down by allowing the Loughor coach to
OUT shout him by a mile, giving the girls the impression his head must have
exploded.

APRIL 2005
DAFEN +
KILGETTY TOURNAMENTS APRIL 2005
The Team at the Kilgetty Tournament
So
far in April, the girls have attended two tournaments, in Dafen and Killgetty.
We were lucky that the weather managed to stay fine for all the matches that the
girls competed in.
In the Dafen tournament, our Under-12’s only narrowly missed out on the
semi-final position on goal difference.
At Kilgetty, the team showed up one player short of a full squad, and what a
performance. This tournament saw the welcome return to form for Lorna, who
scored two cracking goals in the first game.
(Who was happiest, Lorna or Dad Gwyn?).
Katie
moved from her normal position, in defence, up front as striker. Her dad, Kim,
was a bit concerned at the change of position, but later was beaming with rest
of us after Katie had put four in the back of the net! The seven girls who
showed up did us all proud, and it looks like we have the foundation for a very
strong 11 a-side team next season.
Well done Girls! Excellent team spirit by both the Under-10s and Under-12s, who
supported each other during their matches.
