UNDER 10s 2004-2005
Both Garden Village Girls Under 10s Squads have had an excellent season
finishing with some fine tournament results.
Garden Village have made it to the finals of all 5 tournaments
they have entered, 2 of which they won.
Their love of football is clear, and while each of the girls regularly displays
the skills they have learned in training,
their coach, Tony has moulded them into a team that plays very well together,
scoring a lot of goals and conceding very few.
When they are on form, they are definitely one of the teams to beat, and should
continue to impress next season.
We now have enough girls to regularly field 2 squads, and Village Sport have
impressed all with their individual skills
and performance as a team, which should continue to improve next season under
new coach, Tim.
Most importantly, all the girls have had fun, in training and in their matches,
and have shown superb enthusiasm,
teamwork and sportsmanship and
played some excellent football.
The girls, coaches and parents have enjoyed some great times this season, and
look forward to the next.

 Garden
Village Under 10's Triumph at Llangyfelach
The Girls under 10's finished their season on a high with the Garden Village
team winning the Llangyfelach tournament,
and the Village Sports team playing
superbly in only their second tournament.
It was a round robin competition with the team with the most points taking the
trophy.
Garden Village, having reached the final of every tournament they have entered
this year, had set themselves a
high standard, and had to play in this
tournament without their coach, Tony. Jason had to run between the girls'
matches and his own boys team to offer advice, and Andrew provided commentary to
Tony for the Landore and
Pontardawe matches on his mobile.
After four matches each, both Garden Village and Pontardawe had won all their
games, so the tournament was decided
in the final game when they played each
other. Garden Village had plenty of shots on goal but just couldn't find the
back
of the net. The Garden Village keeper, Jess, made a superb save and the
game eventually finished 0 - 0. Village won
the tournament on goal difference,
having played all their games without conceding a goal.

Garden Village & Village Sport Teams
Village Sports, captained by Lois, also had a great tournament, and improved with each game they played, giving
the Garden Village girls a hard time in the third match, and winning their game against
Llangyfelach A, thanks to a goal each by Hannah and Alys. Rachel also scored a goal in a very
close match against Landore. Last-minute goalie Sian did a wonderful job, making
some incredible saves. A good tournament, and a fine end to the
season.

WELL DONE GIRLS!!!
Proud to be a Village
player
Some of the Under 10 girls, led by Charlie, entered a 5-A-side junior
competition in Three Crosses, completely off their own backs (how's that for
dedication and enthusiasm?).
There were 12 teams taking part, both girls and boys. The competition was open
to all players under the age of 13. They played some superb football losing out
in the semi-final to a team of Under 12 boys, mainly consisting of players from
West End and the Swansea City School of Excellence.
The organisers of the competition said they put in a "gutsy performance and
that they and their club should be very proud". The team they lost to went
on to win the competition for the second year running, and our girls were the
only team to put a goal past them.

U-10'S 6-A-SIDE.
Definitely an "away"
tournament, the girls had a good day, playing mostly against teams they had
never faced before. The Garden Village and Dafen girls loudly supported each
other, hoping for a "Swansea final" in the Kilgetty mud, but ended up
facing each other in the semi-final. Garden Village won, and went on to beat the
favourites, Tenby, in the final. A great tournament, and good experience for the
girls. Captained by Alex Davies, they played 8 games, won 8, scored 34 goals and
conceded only 2, the standard of football was superb

After a great days football, our u-10's, captained by Alex
Davies, lost to Landore 1-0 in the final of the Dafen Welfare A.F.C. Under 10's
Mini Football Festival on Saturday 16th April.
A magnificent performance against Landore saw us narrowly beaten 1-0, but the
skill, and commitment shown by the girls was a credit to Garden Village Football
Club.
Well done girls, we are proud of you.
