This was a great match to watch, and was
well-supported by mums and dads, and even
some girls from the Under 11s, as we were
lucky that all the teams were playing at the
same venue this week. Cimla were a good
team, and this match was very exciting,
but the Garden Village girls teamwork,
commitment and footballing skills shone
through, and their confidence seemed
to grow as the game went on.
Definitely the best game I have seen from
the Under 13s this season. The girls should
be very proud of their performance today,
and very pleased with a well-deserved
result.
This match was a Plate
Quarter Final.
Garden Village Juniors Under 13s
will now face off in the semi-final versus
Garden Village Colts Under 13s.
So, one Garden Village Under 13s team will definitely be in the final !

THANK YOU
We are now half way through the 2005-06 season and I would like this opportunity to communicate with as
many parents of the Garden Village Junior teams as I can.
I would like to thank all managers for all the hard work on and off the field. It is not just turning up on
training nights and match days, there is a lot of preparative work.
All the managers have had/are having police checks, attended/are attending their Leaders & Emergency Aid courses.
Some have obtained additional qualifications such as referees, goalkeepers, “C” certificates and SAQ training.
All this has been done in their own time, as well as work and family commitments.
I thank all our sponsors for their continued support; it is very much appreciated by all at Garden
Village.
I would like also to thank the officers on the Junior and Senior committees who work so hard to make
Garden Village such a successful club.
Finally and perhaps most importantly I must thank the players for their dedication to the sport, and the
parents for their help and the support they give to the managers and Garden Village Juniors.
A Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

NEW GARDEN VILLAGE TEAM for the
NEW YEAR
Garden Village will debut a new team, in the New Year.
The new team will be known as Garden Village Colts Under
13s, and a new coach
has been appointed,
Gwyn Weekes, who recently turned 40.
"Happy Days !"
(It looks like someone else is in training for those "football

ANOTHER NAME CHANGE ?
Rumours that Garden Village Colts Under 11s
(who used to be known as Village Sport), are to be renamed in the
New Year to
"Tim's
Real Athletico Garden Village Colt Sports Tuesday United 2006"
have been denied, although the possibility remains that they may change their
name every week to confuse the other teams.

Garden Village Under 13s vs. Landore Match Report 18th September
Congratulations
to all the girls from both the Under 11s and the Under 13s squads who were
selected to attend the Swansea School of Excellence.
A special mention for Katy, who has been appointed captain of the under 13s,
and Rosaria, who is vice captain. All the best for the coming season girls.
A pleasant Sunday afternoon for the first match played on home ground. With a
full squad turn out, and the use of the new changing rooms, things were looking
good. Steve gave the team a pre-match tactics talk whilst drawing pretty
pictures on the white board, although this may have led to the confusion that
later showed on the pitch, as the girls couldn’t find any of the arrows that
Steve had drawn for them to follow! Landore scored early, which seemed to
set the pace for the rest of the match, with their girls scoring some cracking
goals, leaving Garden Village struggling to hold them. Half
time saw an improvement, with better passing which led to a goal scored by
Jenny. The spectators on the side lines went wild, but unfortunately, before
they had time to blink, Landore had scored again. I am afraid that after goal
number ten went in this reporter stopped counting, and spent the rest of match
shouting encouragement from the sidelines with the other members of the
supporters club. Read more here

Village Sport Under 11s Match Report 18th September
The Village Sport Under 11s team, missing Alys, who is ill (get well soon), got off to a
sluggish start against Llangyfelach. Heads high though, they came back to play
some excellent football against Penyrheol, before, once again facing off against
their team-mates Garden Village, where some good team play enabled Vicky to
score a fine goal.
Garden Village Under 11s Match Report 18th September
Garden Village Under 11s definitely had some challenging games this morning, and
were really tested, with Charlie giving them a goal in a close game against
Dafen. A cannonball of a shot from Charlie gave Garden Village an early lead
against Llangyfelach, but then, possible overconfidence from the defence allowed
Llangyfelach to equalise just before half-time. Rachel, and then Charlie, again,
scored in the second half. This game, despite the score, was also very close,
needing some strong defending from Katie T, Jade, Kayleigh and Lily, and the
sure hands of Jess. The final game, after some discussion, was between Garden
Village, and their team-mates Village Sport.

Garden
Village Under 11s & Village Sport Under 11s Match Report 11th September
The first matches of the
new season for the Under 11s were played on a lovely sunny morning in
Pentrehafod, which didn't make any difference to the girls, but stunned and
confused the parents, who are much more used to wind and rain.
The two girls teams found themselves playing each other in the first match.
Village Sport seemed to have decided to go easy on Garden Village for the first
half, but the Garden Village girls obviously felt no such qualms, and the half
finished at 4-0 with 2 goals each from Charlie and Rachel D.
Village Sport were much stronger in the second half, with some fine defending
from Lois and Jordan, and a couple of strong attacks up the full length of the
pitch from Alys. Katie W, keen to catch up, scored 2 goals , and the match
finished 6-0 to Garden Village. Landore drew 0-0 with Penyrheol.
The second set of matches saw Village Sport playing Penyrheol, and Garden
Village against Landore.
The Village Sport match was very exciting, with lots of chances for both teams.
Some excellent saves from Sian. along with a solid defence prevented Penyrheol
from scoring, and Emily, Megan, Hannah and Alys repeatedly took the ball to the
Penyrheol goal, but couldn't quite find the back of the net.
Garden Village played confidently against Landore, with Katie W opening the
scoring, closely followed by Rachel D. With Jess not too troubled, thanks to
Vicky, Rachel K and Alex in defence, Garden Village pushed forward in the second
half, enabling defender Alex to score. Not to be left out, Charlie added to the
total, giving Garden Village a 4-0 win.
In the third and final set of matches, Village Sport played Landore, and Garden
Village played Penyrheol.
Village Sport really impressed in this match, with all the girls by now
displaying enough confidence to use their skills and teamwork. Hannah's
determination to score paid off, with a superb goal following a charge up the
wing. Village Sport were 1-0 up at half-time, and looking very good. In the
second half, the girls continued their great performance, but unfortunately a
last-minute equaliser from Landore denied the girls a well-deserved win.
Garden Village were keen to win their final match of the day against Penyrheol,
and set to with determination. Some lovely football led to Rachel eventually
finding the net (after booting one way over), and the first half finished 1-0 to
Garden Village. The second half saw the girls so determined to push forward and
score again that, at one point Alex found herself (successfully) fending off 4
Penyrheol players alone in the Garden Village half. After some discussion
between Louise and the girls, it was decided that perhaps more than one defender
was required. Jess, as usual, confidently defended the goal until Charlie was
able to slam home a second goal, securing the girls another win, and a clean
sheet for the first Sunday of the season.
All in all, a fine start, or as the Ramones used to say, "Hey Ho, Lets
Go!"
Garden Village Under 13s Match Report 11th September
A wonderful bright sunny Sunday morning. What a great way to start the new
season. Lets hope this is a sign of things to come, so spectators can put
wellies and umbrellas back in the car, and break out the sun cream and caps.
There was a good turnout by the Under 13 squad with one noticeable absence:
manager Steve was a no-show (alleged goalie course). This left the team in the
somewhat dubious hands of Andrew who turned up with no ball (again) for the
girls to warm up with, but rather smugly announced that he had remembered
the kit though! Oh, don't we all feel better now.
The nerves were out today, as the girls were understandably apprehensive about
playing their first game on a full-sized pitch. Although they are now playing
with 11 players, they seem no closer to each other than when there were only
seven on the field. Could these girls last the 30 minutes each way? Even more
importantly, could Andrew's voice stay the distance, as without someone shouting
at them, they would surely feel that Steve had truly abandoned them.
The first goal came from Loughor, but the girls kept their heads up and, with
encouraging rants from Andrew as he patrolled the pitch like a stormtrooper, the
girls carried on playing some very good football, which resulted in an equaliser,
with a goal coming from Amy 2 (we have been banned from calling her "Little
Amy", with threats of violence from said player). This gave the girls the
confidence to go on and play from strength to strength, with shots from Josie,
Rosaria and Hannah just going wide, and Amy, ace defender, having a sterling
solo run up the field and almost getting to the goal at the other end. Amy had a
great match, and all the girls should aspire to her fitness levels (must be all
those sit-ups).
With some great passing from Lorna and Josie, Amy 2 put another in the
back of the net to go 2-1 in front, and for good measure, decided to add another
before the final whistle, leaving Garden Village 3-1 winners. (more on the Under 13s Page)
Louise and Andrew would like it smugly pointed out that both Garden Village U11s
and Garden Village U13s were quite successful without their respective managers, Tony and Steve
for these first games of the season, and hope that this standard can be
maintained.
