This years Fun Day
was held at the Garden Village Club, Stafford
Common, on Sunday 7th May 2006
and was sponsored by Swansea City Employment Training.
As well as the seven-a-side competitions, there were stalls, attractions, and hot and cold
food available all day,
once again provided by the parents of the Garden Village Girls, now known as the
Garden Village Greaseballs.

This incredible goal by Lauren, after a solo run up the left wing got the
loudest cheer of the
tournament, when she scored even as she was knocked off her feet by a defender
twice her size.

Charlie scored her 100th goal of the season during the tournament, and
Alex and Katie, between them scored
Garden Village Juniors' 200th goal of the season, with a combination of Alex's
foot and Katie's backside.

AFTERNOON MATCHES

Garden Village Juniors played well, albeit without a goalie, but Andrew had a
cunning plan. He would just give them all a go in goals and hope for the best.
First in was our resident blind player (Rosie). The Colts were surprised to see
her with the Juniors, and even more surprised to see her in goal. It has to be
said that considering she can’t see, she did a fine job, as did the others.
Kelly, a new player, is a welcome addition to Village as she turned out to have
an aptitude for goal keeping and has been quickly signed up by Gwyn to train as
a goalie next season.

Village played Llangyfelach and Mumbles twice, with the second game against
Mumbles being the best, where we saw Kelly saving some good shots and an ABSOLUTELY
FABULOUS goal from Rosie. We are not sure how it went in, but she
assured us that it was indeed fabulous, the best goal ever scored by any Village
girl, ever!!!
Becky scored her first goal
for the team during this hard fought match making the score 3-2 well done Becky.
A
great day out especially, for our very own “Grease
ball” Sheila, Sandra and Angela were really sorry they couldn’t be with
you (yeah right! ha ha).

Julia shows the girls what will happen if they don’t perform well and when she
says she will take you off the pitch, boy does she mean it. Watch out Girls!!
(Its
OK, thats a boy she is demonstrating on)

Garden
Village Colts played Margam and Llanelli Reds twice. The girls who had already
played a very hard final that morning on a full sized pitch were understandably
tired, although not deterred from giving their all during these matches. We also
saw Tigger in goals, who is taking over from Carys next season as our regular
goalie. Carys has decided to take early retirement. Good luck to both. I am sure
that Tigger will make a superb goalie, she has the full support of the girls to
bounce herself into goals, with Katie’s dad Kim all geared up put her through
her paces!

Sorry, but after all the excitement and tension of the earlier match, this
reporter sat slumped in her chair exhausted (just taking the odd photo) and can
not honestly tell you the score on any of the matches, but I can tell you that
each girl played with the determination and team spirit that saw them win their
fantastic match this morning. Oh yes, they did hold the very strong Margam side
to a 0-0 draw.

Well
done
