Llangyfelach Tournament June 10th 06
A boiling hot Saturday afternoon with a kick off at the same time as the first England game of the
World cup tournament (who picked this date?)

Squad    Lorna, Josie, Tigger, Atom, Carys, Olivia, Ellie, Louise

The team includes our new goalie, Tigger who, although she has not yet started her goalie training does a fantastic job. With two girls new to the team, well in Carys`s case new in the sense that she was playing out having recently retired from goal keeping and Louise having only trained once we were certainly missing some of our big guns who were unavailable this week (bet their dads are watching the match!) Poor Carys unused to running around the pitch was left with blisters, and had difficulty walking but will soon be match fit.

Many teams were no-shows possibly for the same reason, meaning a rearrangement of the
tournament, but Village were determined to give it their best shot with this team.

Margam  V  Garden Village
Village knew that they had their work cut out, as Margam are a very strong team and although fielding a relatively new squad and with the sun draining their energy they get off to a steady start with Tigger being put to the test early on, and doing a great job saving some difficult shots.

Josie and Lorna work well in midfield with Ellie getting well stuck in. Atom was on fine form with her kicks launching into the stratosphere! With one such kick ending up in the back of the net, what a goal!!!

   Margam 2  Garden Village 1

Llangyfelach V Garden Village
After a short break where Julia’s frozen water goes down a treat along with Andrews oranges Village are ready to take on the formidable Llangy girls.  A nice gesture from the Llangyfelach side as we are complimented on the ability of our new goal keeper, well done to Tigger, not bad for a girl with no proper training yet!

Llangefelach   4     Garden Village  0

Loughor  V  Garden Village
The weather by now going from sizzling heat to chilly breeze, with the odd dash of rain thrown in which of course was great for the girls playing football, but left the supporters club looking for things to keep themselves warm, ranging from towels to pinching the spare kit, Gordon getting himself a nice warm hotdog, to Gwyn and Andrew running up and down the line shouting at the girls, although this didn’t really help the girls, as they were talking gibberish!!!  Village get off to a good start with Lorna, Ellie and Josie giving Loughor a hard time in midfield, and it was not long before a goal went in, another cracking shot from Atom.  Both Josie and Elle had shots

at goal but Loughor fight back and our defence is once again under pressure ending with Loughor shooting a shot that Tigger had no chance of saving.  Village again press hard winning corners and throw ins, eventually leading to a great strike form Lorna which lands in the back of the net, unfortunately a lapse of concentration lets Loughor through our defence and they score just before the final whistle.

Loughor 3   Garden Village 2
(Atom, Lorna)

Never mind girls better luck next time, still the supporters club had a good time with Julia keeping them all well entertained as they were missing their chief cheer leader Angela and Sandra and Andrew watching the England match on a little telly under a towel between Matches  keeping everyone informed of the score.
(England 1 Paraguay 0 great result!!!!)

Bancffosfelen Tournament June-06

A wonderful hot sunny morning sees a Garden Village squad head off for Bancffosfelin with Andrew praying that Ian the new coach would be able to make it as Gwyn unavailable today and he is desperate to top up his tan rather than have to do any coaching!

Squad   Lorna  Josie  Atom  Tigger  Elle  Carys  Katy  Alex

We arrive to find that we have not been registered but Louise and Andrew soon put that to rights saying wouldn’t it be funny if we now went on to win it! As a few teams were no shows it was decided we would play all teams twice then the winners and runners up would play for the cup so John set to warming the girls up whilst Andrew directed the supporters group on the best positions for maximum sun tan catching.  Ian shows up just in time to finish warming up the girls and give his team talk, whilst his better half (Helen) fills the role of scorekeeper for the matches and goal scorers.( much appreciated as match reporter often so carried away she forgets who did what when!)

Banc Bells  V  Garden Village
Garden Village get stuck in from the whistle with Lorna and Josie in midfield pushing forward to give Alex a shot at goal, Banc Bells do well to keep Village at bay with Tigger making a vital save. Carys whose fitness is improving worked hard in defence along with our ace defender Atom.  Ian did a fine job of directing the girls making sure they knew who they were marking whilst making sure they kept their shape when pushing forward.

Josie, Alex and Katy take shots at goal along with Lorna and even Atom trying one of her blasts from way back Ellie works hard getting in some good tackles, and Ian brings on Katy up front who works well with Josie and Alex. After some great team work Alex scores meaning a win for Village.

Banc Bells  0   Garden Village  1
(Alex)

Garden Village  V  Peniel
Village now take on the very fit Peniel and Tigger has to have her wits about her to keep us in the match (which she does extremely well).  Ian by now getting in to the swing of things gets more vocal with the poor ref unsure how to calm him down as he has the uncanny ability to scare and be friendly all at the same time! Lorna Josie and Katy push forward with Josie and Katy almost scoring on several occasions, Alex also unlucky not to score. Katy and Josie play well off each other keeping the poor supporters on their toes as they try for goal.

Atom, Alex and Carys do well to make sure that Tigger is well covered and we end the game with a clean sheet.

Garden Village  0   -   Peniel  0

Banc Bells   V  Garden Village
Coach Ian gives the girls a team talk, giving them encouragement on their performance on holding Peniel to a draw, letting them know that they were playing well, and that they had a good chance of winning,  so the girls go out in great spirit.  Village again get stuck in keeping possession of the ball with good passing through the midfield with Lorna and Josie again unlucky not to score.

Ellie goes into defence to help out Atom and proves to be a great defender putting in some brave tackles to win the ball sending Alex away giving Josie and Katy the chance to get forward with Josie getting one in to the back of the net, much to the delight of the supporters club who go wild on the touch line!

Banc Bells  0   Garden Village 1
(
Josie)

Garden Village  V  Peniel
Garden Village go into this game full of determination as they desperately want to get into the final.  With some more very vocal direction from the coach Village work well with Tigger again making sure that no ball crosses her line.  The game is played from one end to the other with the Village defenders Ellie and Atom doing a fine job of getting the ball to the midfield with Josie and Katy and Lorna again unlucky not to score.

Garden Village  0  Peniel 0

This takes Garden Village into the final against Peniel who they have previously drawn both games against  but the coach is sure that Village can go on and win so after a brief rest and a quick practice at penalty’s in case there is still no score go they go out full of great courage and determination.

Peniel  V  Garden Village (final)
Both teams go into the game hard pushing forward but both Village and Peniels defenders hold strong.  Josie blasts a ball but the keeper does a great job of saving it with Alex sending the ball wide the supporters club despair at any goals being scored again and so it ended 0-0.
Extra time is now needed with the Golden goal coming into play; the coach’s decide to play the full five minutes even if the goal is scored.  As both teams wanting to avoid a penalty shoot out they go out and play some great football. After some solid play, with time running out Josie gets past the defenders, looks up makes a run and puts the ball past the goal keeper, the supporters club go mad and on the final whistle Katy pops one into the back of the net just to make sure!

Garden Village win !!!!!!!

Garden Village  V  Dafen
Plate Final   May 7th 2006

Squad    Lorna  Josie  Atom  Amy-M  Rosie  Jenny Ellie  Katie  Megan  Holly  Carys  Olivia

A wonderful bright sunny morning sees a very strong Village side make its way to Cwmbwrla Park for the chance to win some silver ware and with Olivia not being the last to show up we just know that things are going to go well! The turn out by the supporters club is impressive with Angela on cheer leading duties and John (Atoms dad) taking the girls for their warm up as poor Gwyn is a nervous wreck, only hope he remembers it’s football and they don’t suddenly pile in for a scrum during the match!
Garden Village get off to an amazing start with Jenny having an early shot, the midfield today must have overdosed on the lemon curd and toast as they were on fire out there.

With all the play in the Dafen half it was not long before the first goal went in sending the supporters club wild. The game was played at full pace the entire half with each girl playing the best we have seen this season. If  the ball ventured into the Village half a very strong defence of Atom, Megan the destroyer and Katie the Strong went about putting the ball back at the feet of Josie or Lorna who then passed it on to Olivia sending Jenny and Amy-M away. The football skills on the ball today were superb with all girls battling hard showing how far they have come this season
Both Olivia and Jenny get close to scoring again leaving Dafen frustrated but there was no way Josie was going to let them take the ball and time after time she battled hard to win the ball getting crosses into Jenny and Olivia. Half time and team spirit is high they know they are playing well and that they must keep the ball in the Dafen half if they are to maintain their lead, Gwyn makes one change bringing on Ellie for Megan the Destroyer who had a great half.

Village were determined that Carys should have a quiet match so they went all out to keep the ball well away from her, the odd time the ball did come near her she expertly scooped it up and threw it straight out to send Village on the attack again. Lorna, Josie and Olivia worked hard winning many corners and throw ins, Jenny had several chances but they would just not go into the back of the net, by this time the poor supporters club were at breaking point with Andrew almost ready to pass out, Angela smoking like a trouper in between her cheer leading duties and Sandra and Julia jumping about madly and the dads trying to look calm but the steam coming out of their ears giving the tension away!.

Olivia decides to put us out of our misery by scoring, sending the supporters club into a pack of frenzied animals! Gwyn gets an official warning from the ref. for running onto the pitch shouting and screaming after getting so carried away he thought we had already won. Lorna makes way for Rosie who is in fine form although she can’t see anything as small as the ball she can tackle anything larger which she does with much vigour! Holly comes on for Amy-M and gets straight into the game tackling hard to win the ball. Katie the Strong does a fantastic job in defence getting the ball free for the midfield, Jenny again sends the ball wide by now the supporters club were praying for the final whistle especially Julia whose voice was starting to go, then Josie sends a cracking ball into Jenny who puts it into the back of the net, YES!!!!!!!

They think its all over,  it is now!

Garden Village  3   Dafen 0
(Jenny 2  Olivia 1)
This has to be the match of the season one of those you had to be there days,
when everything the girls have been working toward just suddenly comes together.

A well deserved win for the Village Girls who played with skill, determination and Fearless team spirit !
A message from the   supporter’s club-
A big thank you to Gwyn and Andrew who have always believed the girls had this in them.
Well done Girls you were a pleasure to watch now we can see why they call it the beautiful game!

Andrew was so over come that his legs gave way, he turned so white we feared a stroke might follow; we were left thinking that his orange glow was a much better look! The only remedy a similarly afflicted Jenny’s dad had to recommend was a medicinal pint which soon got Andrew along with the rest of the stressed out supporters on the move.

Village girls waiting patiently for their parents to calm down stop cheering and bouncing about and start acting like grown ups, Amy-M says if they carry on embarrassing us she will drive them back to Garden Village!

Kilgetty Tournament April 2006

Squad   Josie   Amy-M   Rosie  Atom  Elle  Becky  Emma  Carys

A much depleted Garden Village side made up of a band of the most dedicated girls set out for Kilgetty on a bright if a little chilly morning full of team spirit.  We wish Lorna a speedy recovery after she suffered head injuries needing several stitches after a slight lapse of concentration left her headering an on coming swing instead of the football she thought was coming towards her!

Crickhowell Panthers A     V      Garden Village
After the initial shock on seeing the size of their opponents with Amy-M and Josie only coming to waist high on some of them, Village get off to a good start winning the ball in midfield with some good tackling from Elle who gets the ball to Josie to send Amy-M on her way but the power of these giant girls soon saw the ball back in their own half. Village played the better football with their passing and ball skills but were unable to get that vital goal, one of these giants could throw the ball almost the full length of the pitch which was hard for Village to deal with but a good battle with the final score not a true reflection on the way Village played this match.

Crickhowell Panthers A    2        Garden Village   0

Llanelli Reds     V     Garden Village
The next game sees Village battling against their old foes the Reds, once again Village get in some great tackles but the team work and skill of the reds win out, stretching our defence giving Carys no chance from their shots.  Again the midfield push forward but the Llanelli defence hold strong and once again our defence are in trouble leaving Village struggling to get that elusive goal.

Llanelli Reds   4      Garden Village     0

Goodwick     V    Garden Village
The third game of the tournament and Village team spirit is still strong Gwyn sends the girls off and again they play some lovely football. The passing of the ball through the midfield sees Elle, Rosie and Josie working well and Amy-M unlucky not to get a shot in. Village continue to push forward eventually winning a corner, Amy-M takes the corner and with the supporters club not sure how the ball is scrambled

over the line we think coming off Elle in the end. Sheila goes on to do a very vocal and outrageously extreme dance clapped on wildly by the supporters club; one would think we had just won the tournament! Again Village fight hard Becky, Emma and Atom getting the ball back up the field but with some great kicks from Goodwick they find the back of the net again, Josie, Rosie and Elle refuse to give up and along with Amy-M keep pushing forward and are unlucky not to find the back of the net themselves.

Well done girls some good football out on that pitch today

Goodwick    3          Garden Village     1
(Ellie)

Goodwick  V  Garden Village (Semi Final)
After a good rest, some sarnies and a drink (and even the odd tattoo being done) Gwyn gets the girls ready with what could be their last game of the day. Village get stuck in straight away with Atom sending Josie away getting the ball into their opponents half. Again they can not find the net, after a great game being fought end to end Goodwick eventually score. Village battle hard but the whistle comes too soon and they are out of the finals.  Never mind well played girls.

Village not too down-hearted as they know that they played well, although I think Andrew and Gwyn seem to think that they won the tournament. Don’t worry girls your secret is safe with me!

Sheila is now in recovery after being hit in the head by a football, after several further attempts at her head Sheila was becoming paranoid thinking that she was being targeted by the footballers.  Investigating the matter a surprised Andrew and Sandra found that she had indeed been targeted by kids who were simply following the instructions attached to an arrow on the back of her head

Although no proof could be found as to the culprit who attached this message, suspicion landed on Angela with the motive possibly being that she wanted to deflect attention away from her extremely pale legs that were turning a distinct shade of purple due to the chilly wind!
Or it might have been that wicked laugh that gave her away.

    Happy Days
To make up for the lack of photos to go with the various reports below, we present a
gallery of recent shots of the Under 13 girls in action in various matches:-

DAFEN TOURNAMENT 2nd APRIL
.

Squad: Josie  Amy-M  Lorna  Atom  Megan  Holly  Rosie  Carys

Garden Village vs Dafen Welfare

The first match of the afternoon gets off to an unfortunate start with Dafen scoring in the first minute which sets the tone for the rest off the match.  Village struggle to get the ball whilst Dafen play some good football.  Josie, Lorna and Holly work hard to give Amy-M a shot at goal but luck was not with us as she sends it wide. Dafen push forward yet again and catch out our defence resulting in another goal which sends Andrew into meltdown as he yells at the girls whilst Gwyn (secretly also in meltdown) more calmly tells the girls that this was just a warm up for them and they can do better.
Final Score:   Garden Village   0   Dafen Welfare   2

Garden Village vs Peniel

After a good talking to by Gwyn Village go out to play with renewed spirit and get off to a flying start. Josie and Holly in midfield tackle hard and win a number of corners which Josie takes well and they are unlucky not to score. Atom, Megan the destroyer and Rosie do a fine job of keeping the ball away from Carys who just does not want to be there. After some fine football Amy-M scores giving Carys the opportunity to come out of goal and with some trepidation Rosie (on the basis that she was nearest to Carys) was put into goals, she took to it well making sure hair was looking good the gloves fitted well and most importantly could she swing from the cross bar (answer yes) the supporters club were slightly concerned as Rosie is blind as a bat but not to worry Josie and Amy-M make sure that the ball does not actually come near her. We have been informed by reliable sources that Rosie is having contact lenses this week so we can look forward to her actually seeing the big round thing called the ball!  With all the action in the Village half it was not long before another goal was produced this time Amy-M sends a cross which lands at Josie’s feet which she then launches into the back of the net.

Final Score:   Garden Village   2   Peniel   0
(Amy-M/Josie)

Garden Village vs Mumbles

Garden Village go into their next match with more confidence but a good Mumbles squad make this a hard match, Mumbles soon score followed by a great goal from Amy-M.  Josie and Holly work hard to keep control of the midfield with Megan the destroyer and Atom along with Lorna holding the defence.

The game is played from one end to the other with some good passing and hard tackling from both teams but it was Mumbles who took the next goal, by which time poor Carys seemed to have lost heart with her life as a goalie. After some heavy tackling from Josie Amy-M scores again taking it to 2 all, but before we had time to celebrate her goal Mumbles had put another in giving them a 3-2 lead, although Village battled hard the final whistle came just to soon for them.

Final Score:   Garden Village   2   Mumbles   3
(Amy-M x 2)

Garden Village vs Dafen

Village take on Dafen with our brave Tigger now in goal and Holly taking her place up front.  Village play well with Tigger making some fine saves allowing Josie and Rosie to get the ball to Holly who was unlucky not to score after some good attempts at goal (in after match interview she reliably informed us that it was the wind and not her aim that was the problem!)

Dafen again break through the defence and although Tigger makes a great save the incoming rebound just sneaks past her giving Dafen the lead. Holly (it was the wind) and Josie desperately try again for goal but stopped by the Dafen goalie.  Unlucky girls!

Final Score:   Garden Village   0   Dafen   1

Garden Village vs Bancffosfelin

Village now take on Bancffosfelin Holly (it was the wind!) is injured after trying to catch the ball with her mouth in the last game hope we hope she makes a speedy recovery as she has become a valued member of the Village squad. Tigger again is our courageous goalie who throws herself at the ball like a missile making some great saves unfortunately she is injured as a player decides to use her head for a ball whilst she was on the floor, (holding the actual ball) but does this put her off not a chance after some medical care she is on her feet and taking the free kick, Way to go Tigger!.

Village battle hard with even Atom getting forward but it was Josie who scored another cracker giving Village the win sending the supporters club wild. Regrettably Village were only one point from making it through to the semi-finals better luck next time.

Final score
:   Garden Village   1   Bancffosfelin   0
(Josie)

Garden Village Juniors vs Llanelli Reds

Garden Village Juniors   0   Llanelli Reds   7

Squad List: Atom Carys Olivia Jenna Holly Josie Becci Chloe Megan Alex-tall Rosie

A freezing cold windy afternoon sees Village take on Llanelli Reds at home this week. The village girls know they are in for a battle today and they are thrown right in as Llanelli start with some good passing and with a shot at goal which goes wide.
Village midfield Holly, Jenna and Josie manage to get control sending Olivia forward but the Llanelli defence hold strong and are soon attacking the Village goal again, this time they don’t miss. Llanelli `s confidence continues to grow and they carry on to score again. Atom and Megan the Destroyer along with Becci make a strong defence with Carys making a couple of fine saves, Village battle on bravely but with half their team already having played one mammoth game against a team of Amazons on a full sized pitch they were bound to struggle.
Andrew shouts encouragement from the side line with Gwyn stomping up and down the line driving them on. Llanelli turn up the pressure scoring again but Village don’t give in and try to push forward again but every time Olivia turns around she is surrounded by a sea of red shirts.
Village continue to fight back but are eventually beaten 7-0
Never mind girls you all played well.

Garden Village vs Llanelli Reds

Garden Village
  1   Llanelli Reds   6

Squad List: Atom Jenna Holly Megan Olivia Jenny Lorna Josie Amy-M Rosie Elle Emma Becci Carys Katie Rosaria

The weather today was dry and cold with a biting wind but this does not put off the Garden Village girls who turn up on mass this week. After last weeks match Village know they have a lot to do but are still determined to go out and play some good football.
Llanelli as usual are off and running from the whistle although our Midfield and defence work hard the Reds manage to gain control of the ball resulting in a goal.
Andrew all on his own this week whilst trying to give all the girls a game finds it difficult to keep the rhythm going with all the changes he has to make leaving him with steam gushing from his ears and a very sore throat. Llanelli continue to control the game and score some cracking goals.
Village as usual refuse to give up and eventually they find a way through Llanelli’s defence with Jenny scoring after some great passing starting from Elle passing to Josie who takes it away and finds Olivia who passes to Jenny to score. Some lovely simple football with controlled passes, this goes to show that they can do it when they try. Atom, Megan the destroyer and Holly help to keep the defence strong and with the brave decision by Andrew to pull Carys out of goals and put in our super –sub with her fearless hands it certainly helped to keep the Red strikers at bay.
Amy-M shows no fear as she throws herself about the goal line using her lightening quick hands, she has razor sharp reflexes along with an ability to bounce off the ground as if she had springs on her feet ( just like Tigger oh ~I feel another nickname coming on! I wonder who can be pooh). We had better watch out as our spies spotted the Llanelli coach saying how impressive Tigger was, we don’t her poached now do we I hope her contract is water tight Andrew!
Rosie after a little wandering finally made it onto the pitch but appeared to still be in wandering mode as she looked for the ball ( it’s behind you!) but that was okay as she didn’t want to mess her hair up anyway! (See Rosie I said I would call you the Wanderer from now on didn’t I)
Jenna landed from Jenna world long enough to say she had a baddie toe so couldn’t possibly play any football today.
It has been noted that several concerned supporters
were alarmed at the new fashion trend being donned by Sheila and Angela last week as they appeared to look
like a pair of terrorists. So in a bid to reassure these concerned folk Sheila has opted for shades of blue and cream in her outfit this week instead of the preferred black but I am afraid she insisted on still carrying a small grenade for decorative purposes only of course.
Final score Garden Village 1 Llanelli 6

Garden Village Colts vs Pontardawe (Amazons)

Garden Village Colts
   0    Pontardawe (Amazons)   4

Squad List: Josie Amy-M Jenny Alex-tall Becci Katie Emma Rosie Carys

A village side arrive at Gorsienon short of a goalie so the call goes out to Carys who jumps out of bed and steps into the breach. (It turns out that Chloe and Alex-taller are lost in the wilds of Gangorch Common we hope they are found before next week’s game!) Pontardawe arrive with a full squad of girls who are obviously fed grow- more in their village from birth as they look like Amazons compared to our girls. Gwyn however tells the Colts not to worry as we can Win (did we see the odd finger crossed there now Gwyn).
Pontardawe score in the first minute of the match after a fluke goal but the Colts put their heads up and get on with the match. Josie gets the ball after a hard tackle passes to Jenny who takes a shot and is unlucky not to put it past the goalie.
Pontardawe decide to shoot the ball from far and wide with the power to knock out grown men but Carys and the defence stand strong and fight hard passing the ball out to the midfield who send Amy-M away to take a shot. The colts do a fine job of holding up Pontardawe with some good passing showing they were not a push over.
Half time and Gwyn gives the girls a team talk whilst the Amazons do a quick hair and make up check before going back on to the pitch. The colts get off to a fine start with some good football from midfield ending up with shots from Amy-M and Jenny who just could not find the back off the net. Pontardawe score again but the Colts refuse to give in and carry on playing their hearts out. Josie and Jenny make a formidable partnership with Amy-M, Carys along with Becci, Katie, Rosie and Alex-tall show that the Colts are looking good especially Emma who was sporting a rather fetching new hairdo.Amy-M and Josie both have free kicks awarded to them after being run over by Pontardawe girls and the rest of the Colts all get a little bit battered and bruised, never mind you played well. Well done to all the Colts. Final score 4-0
Nice to see Denise this week who was enjoying a lovely day out with Gwyn who not content with treating her to one football match decides to make it two with a rugby match as a special bonus treat thrown in, Oh Happy Days!

Garden Village vs Cimla

Garden Village Juniors   3   Cimla   0
(Jenny x3)

This match was a Plate Quarter Final.
Garden Village Juniors Under 13s will now face off in the semi-final versus Garden Village Colts Under 13s.
So, one Garden Village Under 13s team will definitely be in the final !

Squad list: Jenny Josie Amy-M Lorna Emma
Holly Becky Megan Maria Jenna Carys

The weather this week turns out to be sunny and warm and although missing some of our big guns this week the Garden Village girls pull together and produce what might well become the match of the season.
Josie and Amy-M knew they were in with a chance when they spotted someone shorter than themselves on the Cimla team! Tony comes to the rescue when it becomes clear that the ref is a no show, mind you I think he was secretly relieved when he turned up half way through the first half as when you get to a certain age the old legs don’t seem to go were you want them to go!
A cracking start from the whistle, Tigger keeps her feet on the ground this game and with some superb ball skills between Josie, Tigger and Jenny they were attacking the Cimla goal from the off. Village kept up constant pressure resulting in a goal from Jenny. Megan the defender along with Becky and Emma and Maria held strong in defence with Lorna and Holly working hard in midfield. Josie tackled hard and fast winning the ball again and again sending Jenny and Amy-M away with shots from both going wide until another belter from Jenny lands in the back of the net.
Tony took Josie by surprise by getting her to take the goal kicks which she did exceptionally well and with Jenny now on a roll she gets a hat trick before the half time whistle.
With Tony giving the half time talk the girls are sent back on with instructions to Jenna to beam down from Jenna world to help out in defence.
Cimla work hard but the Village midfield are so full of confidence now that they are determined to keep possession giving Holly and Lorna the chance to take shots at goal. Village unlucky not to score again with Jenny and Amy-M sending the ball wide on several occasions, I am reliably informed that Jenny’s form this week is down to toast with liberal amounts of lemon curd on top, so you know what to have for brekkie next week girls.
Jenna beamed down for the last five minutes of the game with some good defending much to the relief of Carys who found herself under pressure for the first time in the match
The Village girls fought hard against a determined Cimla side they took their time looking up and controlling their passes playing the best football that the supporters club has seen this season, one of the best games yet! Andrew pointed out that Gwyn was not there so with him in charge he feels he did well although it looked suspiciously like Tony coaching the girls to their fantastic win with his clear instructions of what he wanted the girls to do, such as which girls to mark and were to place themselves when taking corners.

Well done girls.

HAPPY DAYS

Garden Village Colts vs Llangyfelach

Squad:   Atom Josie Amy-M Jenny Olivia Carys Chloe Alex- tall Alex-taller Becci Ellie

On a bright but bitterly cold morning Village are ready to play, from the first whistle they get stuck in with Josie, Amy-M, Alex-taller and Ellie in midfield passing the ball well giving Jenny the chance to get forward and worry the Llangyfelach goalie. Atom, Beci and Alex-tall, do a fine job of keeping the ball away from Carys as Llangyfelach storm back at them, after a few more attacks and against the run of play Llangyfelach score.
Village pull together, Josie tackles hard to win the ball passing to Jenny who sprints forward and just puts the ball wide. Village again put the pressure on with Amy-M just losing out to a very strong Llangyfelach defence. Village play with tremendous determination which sees them spending a considerable amount of time in their opponents half of the pitch. Half time sees the girls 2-0 down but Gwyn lets the girls know how well they are doing, he makes two changes sending on Olivia ( who strolled in half way through the first half after having a nice lie in) and Chloe ( our brave new trainee goalie!). Village again start well with the midfield holding the ball sending Olivia along with Jenny and Amy-M straight into battle with the Llangyfelach defence, after a few near misses Jenny is determined to score and decides to blast the ball from outside the box with such power that it slams into the back of the net leaving the Llangyfelach goalie with no chance of saving it, game on.
Good play from Olivia sends the ball out to Amy-M who picks herself up off the floor yet again and manages to get the ball to Jenny and after a scramble around the goal the ball goes over the line, at this stage the spectators could not tell who scored but after later watching the video evidence Jenny claims the goal!
With the game now being played from one end of the pitch to the other it was only a matter of time before another goal was created, unfortunately this went to Llangyfelach. Village step up the pressure playing with so much passion that Gwyn along with the supporters club are sure that Village are going to equalise before the end of the match.
Gwyn who by now is so vocal we can hear him from the other side of the pitch encourages the girls to give their all in the last five minutes of the game but with every one of the girls battling hard throwing themselves forward they are suddenly caught by a counter attack in the dying minutes which leave Village having to scramble the ball away giving Llangyfelach a corner, after a good cross the ball comes off the chest of a Llangyfelach player right into the back of the net, before Village have a chance to fight back, the final whistle is blown.
What a great match that saw some terrific football from both teams the final score can only confirm the improvement that the Village girls have made to their game since the start of the season, when they might have been expected to loose by quite a wide margin. Well done to Village who once again did Gwyn and Andrew proud.

HAPPY DAYS

.
Garden Village vs Landore

Squad:   Amy Marie Josie Lorna Atom Carys Jenny Jenna Rosaria Olivia Chloe Alex Holly
.

A bright cold morning finds the Garden Village squad in Pentrehafod with all the girls geared up for a hard game and with Andrew and Gwyn both taking charge today one has to agree it won’t be easy and that’s just picking the team!
Village get off to a great start with Olivia and Amy-M taking control of the midfield and getting the ball up for Jenny to take a shot unfortunately Jenny puts it wide but this gives Village confidence and they continue to battle hard against a formidable side. Landore come back strong forcing Carys to make some great saves although she decided to give her hands a rest and did this by using her feet, showing how good her reactions are.
Landore score but Village keep pushing with Lorna and Jenna doing a fine job of getting Olivia free to take another shot at goal. The supporters are in fine form today with Rosie showing her commitment to the team by turning up to watch whilst carrying a serious injury incurred after being attacked by a ferocious wild cat (in her lounge!).
Village unlucky to be going into half time four goals down but with firm words of encouragement from the dynamic duo (Andrew and Gwyn) they were ready to face the second half with renewed energy. Landore score within the first minute setting Andrew off and with his newly bald head glowing red he starts shouting wildly from the side lines, but this seems to spur the girls on with Josie taking the ball up the line and getting some great passes into Jenny and Amy-M, after a few shots Amy-M finally scores. Holly, Alex and Chloe all do a great job in defence and with Atom kicking the ball with her usual force Village were back on track.
Landore score again but Village show no signs of giving in and bravely battle on.They get a few corners which are taken well by Josie but the Landore keeper manages to keep Jenny and Olivia’s shots from crossing the line, but a determined push in the last five minutes sees some great passing between Josie and Rosaria leading to a superb goal from Rosaria.
Village may not have won the game but there is no doubt that they were victorious in as much as they did not get severely hammered by Landore.

Well done girls! HAPPY DAYS

Garden Village Juniors vs Dafen

Squad:   Andrews’s Valiant Heroes   Carys Olivia Rosaria Jenna Holly Josie Megan

A cold damp morning sees the Village Juniors venture down to Dafen were they find a very wet and muddy pitch (back out with the thermal vests and wellies!) not a good start for Coach Andrew who found himself short off players, not to worry though Andrew decides to go poaching again and bags himself a few young Colts! However this is still not enough as Dafen insist on playing nine girls which leaves us with two Dafen players wearing Village shirts to make up the numbers (although a couple of cardboard cut- outs would have done the job just as well!).
Olivia gets off to a flying start and takes on Dafen like a girl possessed after a few early misses she takes the ball right up and blasts the ball into the back of Dafens net.
Village Juniors dominated play but with the two Dafen players in our defence making mud pies and chatting it was not long before Dafen were able to score. Holly, Josie and Rosaria work relentlessly in midfield to keep Dafen at bay and with Carys making some vital saves they battle on. A very frustrated Olivia goes all out and gets a hat trick unfortunately Dafen also score taking it to 4-3 at half time.
After hearing the Dafen coach say they need to stop the number 6 (Olivia) from scoring Andrew thinks that if we give the shirt to someone else we can confuse them long enough for her to score a couple more, nice thought Andrew!
Dafen changed the two girls in our defence for us although they still seemed to forget which team they were playing for, but Andrew decides to step in and splits the girls either side of the pitch and brings his secret weapon into central defence. With this defender known as “Megan the Destroyer” in full battle mode Andrew is in no doubt that she can hold the Village defence single handed.
The Destroyer gets to work, and with the spirit of a great warrior unleashes her strength at the Dafen strikers every time they are foolish enough to get into her territory with fearless determination she takes on the might of Dafen and comes off victorious. With the destroyer in command at the back the midfield are able to get the ball up to Olivia to score again. Well done Megan! (The Destroyer)
Jenna comes out of Jenna world in the second half long enough to start troubling Dafen giving Rosaria and Holly the chance to get a shot or two in as well. Josie and Olivia battle hard and although tired they still manage to threaten the Dafen defence a few times more before the final whistle.
Rosaria was so exhausted that she almost collapsed she was stretchered off and given oxygen before returning to the pitch.
A courageous battle against the odds, with Carys lucky not to be injured as ball kicked out of her hands whilst she was on the floor , Holly caught in the face and most of the Village Juniors walking off battered and bruised they can at least know that they played great football and were really unlucky not to win. Although the supporters were few they were very vocal and believe the real winners of this match were the Garden Village Juniors who all played with such heroic spirit

Final score 6-5

GARDEN VILLAGE JUNIORS vs GARDEN VILLAGE COLTS

Garden Village Colts squad
Lorna Josie Amy Marie Rosie Becci Jenny Elle Alex-tall Holly Katie

Garden Village Juniors squad
Carys Olivia Atom Jenna Megan Alex-taller Chloe 1 Chloe 2 Maria

The local derby between Gwyns Colts and Andrews Juniors took place today at their mutual home ground. The weather was warm and sunny today taking the supporters by surprise sending them hunting for their sunglasses and fold away chairs.
The game was under threat from the minute they got into the changing rooms when a sneaky Andrew who found himself short of players poached two of Gwyns girls from under his nose!
As usual all the girls find it difficult playing each other as it was not so long ago they all played as one team, but as Gwyn pointed out to the Colts if the newly appointed coach of the juniors (Andrew) should win today then we would never hear the end of it and his head would get so big that he would have trouble standing upright so for the sake of Andrews health they had better go out and win the match!
The game got off to a great start with the juniors wearing very fetching red bibs and a certain Mr Weeks (as he likes to be known when on the pitch) acting as ref this week. Josie and Jenny play well off each other which with the help of Lorna ends in a goal but the juniors push back with Carys throwing out to Alex who gets the ball up for Olivia and Chloe ending with a goal in the back off the net. Amy-M was called upon yet again to be keeper for the Colts (as they have no goalie as yet) and with her Kamikaze approach to being goalie the rest of the Colts feel safe enough to push up the pitch with Elle and Alex enabling Lorna and Josie in midfield to get some good crosses into Jenny which she then converts into goals.
Not to be out done Olivia rallies the juniors and with Chloe 2, Megan and Maria playing well they score again.
Amy-M frustrates poor Olivia by making some spectacular saves with her lightning reactions which she does time and again.
Half time and both teams are playing well; one change is made with Katie now coming on for the Colts. Andrew must have decided that Atom should take out the Colts and with some very strong challenges we see her put Rosie and Becci to name but two on the floor! As well as this she manages to get Jenna out of Jenna world long enough for her to score, although the shock of this put her straight back and she continued the match wandering around aimlessly. Becci joined Holly in defence for the second half and we think she has found her place as she made some great challenges. The game was fairly evenly matched with Amy-M making saves at one end and Carys the other when one side scored the other soon followed but the game was eventually won by the very determined Colts, the goal scorers were, Lorna, Jenny, Chloe and Olivia and not forgetting Jenna. The weather also saw an increase in the number of supporters attending I do hope this keeps up!
Final score ?

Two determined coaches and two squads of equally determined girls.

Steve’s Squad
Olivia, Josie, Jenna, Atom, Chloe, Alex 1, Carys

Gwyn's Squad
Lorna, Ellie, Katie, Amy-Marie, Emma, Becci,Alex 2

Official photographer today was Miss Katie Weekes who did a splendid job despite the rain, mist and the risk of frost bite to her poor freezing hands.

The match got under way with Jason as ref and with both teams playing hard to win the ball, the first break came from Josie in midfield sending Olivia away, her shot was saved by Amy 2 unfortunately for her it rebounded straight to Jenna’s feet and before even she had realised what had happened she had kicked it into the back off the net.  It must be said that for a girl not trained as a goalie what a fantastic game Amy 2 had, she jumped, dived and threw herself at the ball and any on coming strikers with the speed and bravery one can only be imagined being matched by a kamikaze pilot. Well done Amy 2.

Atom got onto the score sheet, although the goals came from her running closer to the goal there were times during the match we expected her to score straight from her goal kicks. Steve almost totally confused Jenna by saying she must play like a yo-yo  (meaning going in and out pulling opposition players with her) she obviously took this to be up and down and promptly went straight down on her bottom in the mud!

Josie played some great balls into the box and apart from the odd time only Amy 2s quick hands stopped Olivia from converting these into goals. Ellie, Josie and Alex 2 all almost scored but the loudest cheer of the match went to Katie when she finally scored a goal in the last five minutes of the match, poor Katie seemed to spend most of the game running on her own towards the goal taking shots that just would not go into the goals (the supporters club were so pleased as they thought that the ref might continue play until she did score).  Well done Becci and Alex who played their first game today, a great start.

Katie taking another shot                      Katie taking no chances stays close to Carys

Hard to say who won the battle as both coaches were as vocally loud and passionate with their encouragement and coaching to the girls during play as each other, although I am not sure if I saw Gwyn actually stray onto the pitch whilst questioning the ref over his decisions but then again we had no trouble hearing him voice his concerns from the side lines, so I suspect this battle will rage for a while yet.

The supporters club were cold, wet, shivering, turning blue and struggling to see the pitch as the mist rolled in but still happily managing to yell encouragement from the side lines. (Much to the annoyance of a certain coach!) Andrew was obviously keen to support all the girls so just decided to confuse Jenna even more by yelling “Come on Village” leaving her asking but which one?

A thank you was received today from a satisfied reader who after taking advice over thermal underwear was pleased to say their bits and pieces were now being kept nice and warm whilst watching the game.

All the girls played well it was nice to see them relaxed but still determined and focused and even though cold wet and extremely muddy they were all really enjoying themselves, a great afternoon’s football was had by all.

Happy Days.

SUNDAY DECEMBER 4TH

Garden Village   0   Llangyfelach   12

Gwyn ref in first half swapped with Steve at half time to give him a chance to look after the girls in readiness for his new coaching job with the second under 13s team, and a great job he did too!

Happy Days.

Carys was injured during second half and a very brave Amy stepped into her gloves, Amy was excellent and made some fantastic saves one of which left everyone wondering how on earth she managed to move so quickly, after saving one, going to the floor only to have it shot back at the goal she some how managed to get up whip round and save that one as well, Well done! (After a full medical Carys will be fit for next match)  We were now a man (girl) down reducing Village to just nine, but they bravely fought on with Olivia making some cracking runs with Josie, Ellie and Lorna in support. Josie also made a great run and managed to get a shot at goal which had the Village supporters club all cheering wildly.

Although Llangyfelach scored at least ten goals this does not reflect the effort that Village put into the game, I am sure that time and growth will strengthen them and they will be able convert their abilities into winning matches.

Andrew had a quiet match, considering he was in combats we half expected him to start doing bar lifts from the goal posts  but I suppose he was keeping up his strength for that all important pint lifting that would surely come later.

Olivia has suggested to Steve that training should involve running up and down sand dunes I am sure that the rest of the girls will be overjoyed with this suggestion, although I suspect that Olivia’s idea involves the sun, the sea, a bikini, a cold drink and a sun lounger whilst she watches all the others do the running!

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 20TH
Garden Village, Stafford Common

Garden Village  V  Landore

Squad :   Josie, Atom, Chloe, Jenna, Lorna, Rosaria
Rosie, Emma, Carys, Hannah, Olivia, Alex 4

Today, after a lot of confusion before the match about how many players we were going to play, eleven of our finest and a super sub were sent out onto the field.

What followed was a game dominated by the Village girls, as they played their football whilst being elbowed, kicked and pushed off the ball, The first goal came after only two minutes when Josie charged past the Landore midfield, looked up and shot the ball right into the top right corner. Minutes later, Atom came storming up from defence, and from the half way line launched the ball right up the pitch and straight into the back of the net.

Chloe was the next to score. After taking the ball off the feet of the Landore defender, she slips the ball past the goalie, who kicks the ball out, but it is intercepted by Lorna, who smacks it straight back at her, which now makes four goals. Just on half time Rosaria does a spectacular volley which completely beats the goalie, leaving her flat on the floor.

Chloe in battle                                    Josie being sized up

After a half time pep talk by Steve, Village go back out determined to carry on scoring. After some great passing, Rosie beats off three defenders to score the sixth goal. Not wanting to be left out, Hannah then takes a shot from just outside the box, which hits the post, bounces off and drops over the line.  Landore try hard, but there is no stopping Village as Olivia puts one in, closely followed by Emma and Alex 4. Super sub Jenna adds to the score sheet by distracting Landore by chatting her way up the field, until close enough to tell the goalie Here it comes! but goal of the match must go to Carys who comes out of her own goal to take the ball past all the players and then casually kicks it straight into the Landore goal.

Final score Garden Village  12  Landore 0

This report is brought to you thanks to a dream scenario from Denise and Sandra, although everything about the Garden Village Squad playing great is TRUE.

Garden Village
   10   Loughor   4
 (Aimee-Marie x3,Rosaria x2, Chloe x2, Olivia x2, Rosie)

Squad:   Josie,  Atom,  Jenna,  Amy,  Rosaria,  Rosie,  Carys,  Chloe,
Olivia,  Lorna,  Emma,  Ellie,  Katie,  Hannah,  Chloe 2,  Alex

After a spell of bad weather stopping play recently, our resident weather girl is predicting that the next couple of weekends will be dry and bright but to watch out for falling temperatures. Looks like the girls should get a few matches in.
Sheila’s tip of the day – Ladies, get this season's must-have fashion trend: Thermal Underwear!

A good steady start by Garden Village with Josie, Chloe, Amy and Emma passing some great balls and with Village keeping play in the opposition’s half, it soon leads to a cross from Josie which gave Amy the chance to put the ball in the back of the net. At this stage the supporters club get a little worried as Atom's dad puts in an appearance, but as he brings along Karl (man of many wives) to give the girls his much missed loud vocal encouragement and support they decide to let him stay and watch the match.

Village starting to feel confident on the ball, Rosaria, Ellie, Chloe and Josie take control of the midfield, passing the ball well, holding off Loughor, and soon the goals start to go in, with Chloe scoring two and not wanting to be left out Olivia puts one in followed by Amy.

Loughor try hard to get back in the game which they do when they catch Village on the break.  Carys, after not having anything to do, is suddenly caught unawares and Loughor pull one back (much to the delight of their supporters who were even more vocal than Karl).

Half time comes, and after working out what was wrong with Steve’s face (he was smiling), Village feel rightly pleased with their performances.  With a change of line up Steve, sends Village back onto the field. They were a bit slow to settle down, but before long the goal of the match is scored, this magnificent effort goes to Rosie; after first miss-hitting the ball with one foot she completely misses with the other, leaving  the goalie so amazed with this dummy ( which of course was what Rosie intended as she informed me in after match interview), that she failed to notice the ball slowly trickling towards the goal line until it was too late, its over the line. Well done Rosie!

Loughor battle hard to get back in the game again, and pull another two back. But for Katie and Atom doing an outstanding job in defence, Loughor might well have scored more. Andrew now starting to rant and stomp along the line, but before he had the chance to start turning scarlet and hurl abuse, Steve puts Amy, Josie and Chloe back on the pitch and with Rosaria and Lorna they gain back control of midfield. With shots from Chloe, Josie, Ellie and Atom just missing along with Hannah pushing forward it was not long before Village scored again, making it Rosaria two along with Chloe and Olivia with three for Amy and One for Rosie.
What an outstanding team effort by the Village girls. Final score Village 10  Loughor 4

Happy Days

What! Only two of you, Oh come on now, that’s just too easy.

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 6TH

Garden Village
vs Llanelli Reds

Cancelled due to rain
No match today as the weather has been so bad that most pitches are now water logged, much to the disappointment of the girls and the relief of the mums and dads who brave the British weather to support their little darlings. The majority of girls from all our teams turn up for training on Tuesday’s week in week out, no matter what the weather. This is much appreciated by all team coaches and managers; let’s hope that we are in for a dry spell so they can get a game in soon!

Squad: Josie, Atom, Amy-M,Rosie,Rosaria,Jenny,Chloe, Hannah,Ellie,Emma,Carys,Chloe-2,Olivia

A happy squad this afternoon all looking forward to the coming game, with girls insisting Steve join them for the photo shoot.
Things must be going well.
Weather girl's prediction for today cool and windy with lots of muddy puddles.  Sheila’s tip of the day – time to get your designer wellies out ladies. (A fine pair were later modelled by Paula)
New formation today decided by Andrew ( so we have the tea lady picking the team now) Steve not to sure about it and informs the girls that if they don’t score this week he is giving up, we wish pipes up Hannah, guess who’s sub next week!.
I have to say the village girls did start off quite well they got some good passing that just lacked that edge going for goal.  Llangyfelach push hard and although Carys made some cracking saves they start scoring and with some great shots they go 3 -0 up. Village fight back, Josie battling hard to get the ball up to Rosie and Jenny but the goalie does a fine job of keeping the ball out of the back of the net.

Steve, linesman again this week and with only a slight blast of steam coming from his head manages to keep the girls going, it was left to Andrew to start ranting and after a particularly fine effort at Rosaria about waking up she looks at the ball coming towards her thinks of Andrews head and kicks it so hard that it whizzes past the Llangyfelach defence and straight past the keeper into the back of the net, way to go Rosaria!

Village battled hard showing promising signs of becoming a very good side, their ability to pass the ball starting to show on the pitch leading to some good runs of play, midfield pushed up further this week ensuring that we spent a good part of the match in the opponents half, which in turn meant more chances of going for goals, keep up the good work girls. New girl Chloe 2 played first match with the team, well done Chloe, overall they were unfortunate to lose as they played so well, final score Llangyfelach 8  Village 1.
Atoms dad turned up this week, when he arrived they were only 1-0 down but that soon changed, sorry Atom we can’t ban him he sells to many raffle tickets.
Andrew fed up of being tea lady practices his nursing skills on poor Angharad, as team doctor sounds more important and a white coat would look so much better than an apron. Angharad's verdict – stick to tea Andrew!

Hello to all from Spain,
Thought that we would pop out of the Pool & Sun for 2 mins to send you all a message from Spain.
Weather here is brilliant, hope it is good with you, bet not! Still practising our football skills in my Nan's garden,
but she is not happy when we keep kicking the ball against the house.
Hope you have a good win on Sunday and dont get too muddy, will be thinking of you
when We are relaxing in the sun (hopefully).
Love Katie W. & Lorna xxxxxxx  (by email)

SUNDAY OCTOBER 16TH

Gors Avenue

Garden Village   0   Landore   9

Squad: Josie  Atom,  Amy-Marie,  Rosie,  Jenna,  Jenny, Lorna,  Carys,
Ellie,  Rosaria,  Hannah,  Emma,  Katie,  Olivia

A very good turn out this week, although a quick mercy dash by Andrew was needed to rescue a stranded Lorna,
whose dad’s banana wagon was not going anywhere this morning .Our resident weather girl is predicting a pleasant
dry morning, but with a slight frosty breeze blowing in from the Landore direction (boy, did she get that one right!).
Sheila’s tip of the day –  Pile on the lip gloss ladies. We don’t want chapped lips now do we ?

A slow start to the game from Village, with Landore forcing the pace and, after scoring three goals in quick succession,
Village supporters fear the worst, but Village girls not taking anything lying down, and with Carys making some great
saves, they fight on. Josie and Jenny passing well, they had the Village supporters screaming as they got the ball into
Landores half and only the strength of Landore's defence keeping Jenny from scoring.  This then spurs on Rosie and
Rosaria and along with all the girls they fight hard to get the ball. Captain Katie, Jenna and Atom solid in defence,
all the girls feeling good going into half time.

Steve, linesman this week, and extremely calm (most of the time). This might have had something to do with what the
new tea lady was putting in the tea, or it could have been seeing the Ref pull Landore up over their aggressive play.
Andrew made a lovely tea lady, although supporters think he should have had some bacon butties on hand. Our
Weather Girl kept questioning linesman over off side rule leading him to suggest, as she doesn’t know the rules
perhaps she should not be on the touch line. This of course meant that a dark cloud was then attached to his head.
Weather Girl only lifted said cloud as tea lady promised her a private demonstration at training next week.

The second half saw Village come out determined to make Landore fight to win this match. A great run by Olivia
into the Landore half was only halted by a Landore player trying to strangle her in mid flight, and with the
Village supporters club going wild on the touch line, the Ref. gives the young lady in question a good talking to
(lucky for us Liv made of stern stuff).

Amy also takes a bashing and, after being hurled into the air is eventually stretchered off, must mention her
first-rate work in defence during the second half before this incident occurred. Although Landore go on to
score again making it 9 Village girls can be proud of the way they played. This was endorsed by Steve to all
the girls in his after match talk.

Where was Karl (man of many wives) this week we missed his quiet encouragement? Message to Atoms dad,
safe to come and watch. You were not there this week and we still lost. Lorna and sis Katie along with Jenna
all on their holidays this week, have a great time.

What are we going to do without Jenna nattering all the time it’s going to be so quiet. Hurry back Jenna !
Well done
Good effort by all.

SUNDAY OCTOBER 9TH
Garden Village, Stafford Common

Garden Village   0    Llanelli   11

Squad: Katie, Jenna, Emma, Helen, Carys, Olivia, Josie, Rosie,
Rosaria, Aimee-Marie, Lorna, Atom (player previously known as Amy 1), Sam

Not a full squad again this week but, still a good turn out. Steve spent time with the squad going over the offside rule and, apart from perhaps one or two girls, they seem more confused than they did in the beginning.
Our tea lady has just been promoted to weather girl, and I have personally witnessed her uncanny insight into the weather, where she can safely say how windy it is, and how it will affect the run of play on the pitch. Today’s weather dry, cold and windy enough to send the oppositions balls wide of the net. Good luck Shelia, look forward to next weeks weather report. Sheila’s tip of the day – if raining put up umbrella to keep hair nice and tidy.

Village get off to a fine start with some good play and do well to hold Llanelli, but the Llanelli strikers soon making Carys save shots in spectacular style. Village battle on, but with Steve as ref today and very calm, something was missing so the linesman (Carl, man of many wives) steps up and does a “Steve” and with much shouting, pacing and yelling he certainly made the girls feel at home, although no signs of the now familiar steam coming from his head. Obviously didn’t shout hard enough then!. Eventually, Llanelli’s pressure was too much and after shooting a few marvellous shots, that no one could have stopped, they scored. After fighting hard, Garden Village go into half time 3 -0 down. Much praise for Carys at this stage, as she not only saved some great shots she also decides to do a “Steve” and takes care of her back line by yelling constantly at them letting them know where she needed them.

Second half started off well, but soon the Village girls seemed to lose their energy and focus. Llanelli started blasting goals into the back of the net, and to top it all at this stage the linesman loses his voice, leaving the girls unsure how to cope without his enthusiastic encouragement. By this time, some eight or nine balls had gone in, and Village were camped out in their own half, seemingly afraid to venture forward (possible offside confusion?), then Village girls start parting like the Red Sea every time a certain brilliant Llanelli striker came forward making it difficult for Carys to stop the bombardment, unless of course she put the entire team on her goal line (which in hindsight might not have been a bad idea). There was the very occasional run by Aimee-Marie and Olivia into the distant shores of the other end of the pitch, but they were promptly cut out and sent back by a very strong Llanelli defence.

Angela, once again working her socks off selling raffle tickets to the masses. Sausage and chips enjoyed by both Village and Llanelli squads, supplied by the club. Thank you once again. Garden Village girls still smiling, although Atom is thinking of banning her dad from future matches, as every time he turns up they lose!

SUNDAY OCTOBER 2ND

Garden Village, Stafford Common

Garden Village   5   Dafen   7
(Aimee-Marie x 4, Chloe)

Squad: Jenna, Emma, Helen, Hannah, Ellie, Carys, Rosie, Chloe,
Aimee-Marie, Josie, Rosaria, Amy, Lorna, Katie, Jess

A lovely sunny afternoon and everybody looking forward to a good game. Not a full squad this week but a big thank you goes out to Katie and Jess from the under 11`s who bravely stepped into the under 13`s to help out.
Dafen get off to a good start leaving Village girls wondering if they could get into the game at all but with some good play and Amy 2's quick feet, they soon settle down, and before long a cracking goal is put into the back of the net (Amy 2 ), bringing it to 2-1. Dafen again pushing hard soon score again to make it 3-1. Village then decide to step up the pace, with better passing resulting in a goal from Chloe, and another two by Amy 2 taking Village into the lead. Rosaria, captain today due to Katie’s illness, was unfortunately injured whilst battling with three Dafen players, and was stretchered off for some medical treatment, although she did insist on going back on for a bit before the final whistle blew.
Half time saw a revived Dafen side and before long, shots going in making it 6-4. Well done to Jenna, who at this stage did manage to save a goal with her feet from going over the goal line but unfortunately the rebound was sent back, bouncing off her, never mind Jenna good try.

By this time Steve almost going into mental overload with frustration, his head turning redder than Andrew’s glow, and steam rising 100 foot in the air, worrying low flying air craft. With the safety of any air passengers, and the girls on the ground in mind a stern word from ref (Gwyn) was called for, with demands to stop interfering with his decisions, and let them get on the match.
The warning from the ref had little effect, and with his head boiling almost to explosion levels, and still storming around the pitch like a man possessed, something was needed to avert a possible blast off so BT, sporting his cool head this week, tried to calm things down with some gentle words of wisdom (yeah right!).
It was Amy 2 who had the best answer to this problem and brought Steve’s head down to simmering level by scoring a terrific goal and I am sure that if final whistle had not stopped her she would no doubt have scored again.
Although reporter was demoted to tea lady this week and unable to watch all match I was kept up to date with proceedings by the loud commentary rantings of Steve, whilst certain other tea ladies reported sightings of a possible mooner in the crowd, although not verified in person, lets hope that they don’t try streaking next week. What do you think B.T?

Special mention to Angela for her gentle persuasion techniques getting people to buy raffle tickets. A thank you to the club for providing once again a great meal enjoyed by all, and to Hannah who shared her birthday cake with everyone. Happy Birthday Hannah.
Quick note to Steve: it is no good screaming like a banshee that someone is off side, when you have not been through this in practice with them. Perhaps this would be a good time to use the white board, to explain this rule in detail, instead of drawing pretty pictures on it.

RESULTS FOR SEPTEMBER

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 25th
Bancffosfelin

Garden Village   4   Bancffosfelin   0
(Jenny x3, Olivia)

Squad: Carys, Amy, Emma, Katie, Lorna, Rosie, Jenny,
Rosaria, Jenna, Olivia, Aimee-Marie, Hannah, Josie

A cool, damp early morning start this week, and with an intense but brief team talk, Steve whisked the squad off to warm up, making sure all the girls were wide awake and ready to win. A thank you to Olivia and Amy 2 for stepping in to help Bancffosfelin, by playing one half each, as they were a player short.
The girls got off to a good start with some lovely football, and with some great team work they kept the ball up the right end of the pitch, resulting in a fine goal from Jenny. Village girls gaining confidence all the time, passing some lovely balls, and keeping the pressure on until an unlucky handball from a Bancffosfelin player resulted in a penalty decision, Jenny stepped up and scored, making it 2 – 0.

Bancffosfelin fought back and scored, but the goal was disallowed as a player was offside. Jenny missed a few chances, but was determined to get another, which she did, making it a hat- trick. Hannah, Josie and Rosaria all had shots with Rosaria almost knocking down the goals themselves, such was the force of her shot. Must mention Rosie, who battled really well today. YES Rosie you are in one of the photos! Emma back this week, and along with our Captain Katie they continue to do a fine job in defence.

By this time Steve is calm, almost to the point of smiling, and Andrew so relaxed that he takes time out for a nice sit down with a cup of tea. Good to see the only steam coming from B T was from his cup! I don’t know what worries the girls most, a smiling Steve or a snarling Steve, but considering the result, perhaps a mixture of both is called for, but just to make sure Steve's smile lasts all week, Olivia decided to don full kit, including shin-pads, and score a goal, leaving the final score 4 – 0 to Garden Village.

Well done girls, much better this week, plenty of shouting and calling for the ball.
Keep up the good work.
Steve did have a couple of head boiling moments, but the girls were relieved to find that he kept these for the linesman, who seemed to have a problem with his eyesight. Steve and Andrew should have been alerted to this problem earlier, as said linesman was the front driver of a convoy of cars they were following on the way to the match, only to find that they had to turn around, as they were going the wrong way, showing he obviously had trouble reading the road signs.

Well if anyone can get it to play, that would be Jenna.

Happy Days!

Olivia, Chloe, Aimee-Marie, Hannah, Helen, Ellie, Rosie

Congratulations to all the girls from both the under 11`s and the under 13`s squads who were selected to attend the Swansea School of Excellence. A special mention for Katy who has been appointed captain of the under 13s, and Rosaria who is vice captain. All the best for the coming season girls.
A pleasant Sunday afternoon for the first match played on home ground. With a full squad turn out and the use of the new changing rooms things were looking good. Steve gave a team pre-match tactics talk whilst drawing pretty pictures on the white board, although this may have led to the confusion that later showed on the pitch, as the girls couldn’t find any of the arrows that Steve had drawn for them to follow!
Landore scored early, which seemed to set the pace for the rest of the match, with their girls scoring some cracking goals, leaving Garden Village struggling to hold them.

Half time saw an improvement, with better passing, which led to a goal scored by Jenny. The spectators on the side lines went wild, but unfortunately, before they had time to blink, Landore had scored again. I am afraid that after goal number ten went in this reporter stopped counting, and spent the rest of match shouting encouragement from the sidelines with the other members of the supporters club.

Ref. had a good match, although one supporter did make a complaint. She thought he was not sexy enough, but at least he’s not orange like a certain Mr “no balls”, suggested another supporter. I must point out that Mr “no balls” was not orange this week, or at least I don’t think he was, as it was difficult to see his colouring for all the steam coming out of his ears, I’m not quite sure what caused this overheating to occur, but a swift beer or two soon put him out, and he was able to join his partner for the after team talk (Ah sweet). I wonder if he mentioned who was in charge when they won last week?
Heads up girls, its only one match and your football is improving all the time.
Thanks to the club for the after match meal which was enjoyed by all the girls and parents alike.

A wonderful bright sunny Sunday morning. What a great way to start the new season. Lets hope this is a sign of things to come, so spectators can put wellies and umbrellas back in the car, and break out the sun cream and caps.
There was a good turnout by the Under 13 squad with one noticeable absence: manager Steve was a no-show (alleged goalie course). This left the team in the somewhat dubious hands of Andrew who turned up with no ball (again) for the girls to warm up with, but rather smugly announced that he had  remembered the kit though! Oh, don't we all feel better now.
The nerves were out today, as the girls were understandably apprehensive about playing their first game on a full-sized pitch. Although they are now playing with 11 players, they seem no closer to each other than when there were only seven on the field. Could these girls last the 30 minutes each way? Even more importantly, could Andrew's voice stay the distance, as without someone shouting at them, they would surely feel that Steve had truly abandoned them.
The first goal came from Loughor, but the girls kept their heads up and, with encouraging rants from Andrew as he patrolled the pitch like a stormtrooper, the girls carried on playing some very good football, which resulted in an equaliser, with a goal coming from Amy 2 (we have been banned from calling her "Little Amy", with threats of violence from said player). This gave the girls the confidence to go on and play from strength to strength, with shots from Josie, Rosaria and Hannah just going wide, and Amy, ace defender, having a sterling solo run up the field and almost getting to the goal at the other end. Amy had a great match, and all the girls should aspire to her fitness levels (must be all those sit-ups).

With some great passing from Lorna and Josie,  Amy 2 put another in the back of the net to go 2-1 in front, and for good measure, decided to add another before the final whistle, leaving Garden Village 3-1 winners.
Andrew by this time was almost glowing bright scarlet, and hardly able to contain himself, with the knowledge that he had seen the squad through this, and not Steve. He left so quickly, to ensure that he could get his ever-expanding head in the car door, that he failed to realise he had abandoned poor Rosaria with no lift home. Rest assured that certain kind-hearted supporters waited while arrangements were made for her to be picked up.
Amy 1 provided birthday cake for everyone. Happy Birthday Amy.
A wonderful performance from the Ref, with clear instructions (the encouragement and advice was appreciated: you'd think he knew some of the players, eh Lorna?), leading to a smooth run of play. Well done, Gwyn. I don't know why Andrew insisted on calling him dodgy. Perhaps he was just jealous of his more natural looking tan?
Apologies to the manager for some gestures totally unbecoming of a respectable member of the Garden Village supporters. On this particular occasion, this was not warranted, and was an over reaction, which is a side effect of having to listen to any male that should dare question a lady about her time-keeping. It has been noted that said manager is getting frustrated at all the coaching that the parents are doing from the side lines (even though they often make sense), and we take this opportunity to say that we will try to keep lips firmly zipped, although a staple gun might need to be added to the kit bag.
Jenna tried to better her record for staying quiet, and we have to congratulate her, as she tried this at training last week and managed a new Jenna record of 90 seconds. Amy 1 should have the flattest stomach in Wales after all the sit-ups she has had to do during training sessions, although there is a good case for a reprieve after Steve was heard to say he didn't want her on his team as she was so thick. Don't worry Amy, we know its not you. Steve just doesn't explain clearly what he expects from you all during training. Even Giggs would have trouble following his instructions.
Amy 1 has made it her mission to get Andrew to give up smoking as it is bad for his health, and she thinks he is not setting a good example to the girls, especially as they are training to play football, and need to be fit and healthy. So, come on, lets all encourage BT not to shorten his chances of reaching old age. I mean, its already seen off his hair, so I think she might have a point.
(Still wondering...Bald Top, Bronze Terminator?)
Happy Days.

OK. Who hid the ball ?

I told you its not in my coat !

PRE-SEASON TRAINING REPORT

Well, another season is about to start and Steve starts training the girls with all the vigour of a slightly deranged being. Could this be due to the rumours on the grapevine that he is leaving to go and follow his dream of coaching the under-six boys, or just the conflict that is raging with the attention that his partner (sorry, right-hand man) Andrew has been getting from Tony. The girls, although of course concerned as to whether Steve will retain what is left of his hair this season, are urging him to stay.
Tony duly turned up at the Under 13s first training session this week, causing many outbursts from Steve, as he tried to offer advice from the sidelines, where he was lying in the sun with a rather less orange-looking Andrew (who maintains that he has photographic evidence to prove that this tan was gained naturally). This led to Steve refusing to communicate with Tony directly, and only through "BT" as he affectionately calls his right hand man. Tony, not at all perturbed, was heard to say that his advice might benefit certain people, as his team generally win their matches, and this was not going to rile him as he is off to sail the seven seas to do battle with greater foes, such as a certain Jack Daniels.
Andrew was obviously upset by all this, as he took to verbally abusing some poor, hapless chap, who only stopped to ask a simple question. Of course, it could have been because said chap blocked out his sunlight for several seconds, which might prove fatal to his plan for a natural orange glow.!
All the girls are pleased to be back and are raring to go. Jenna has returned in particularly fine form, commenting on the heat. Steve asked how she could be hot, and Jenna replied "BECAUSE THE SUN IS SHINING"
Yep, its good to be back.

("BT"? I wonder,... Ball Tosser, Big Tackle, Blissfully Tango?)
Any suggestions gratefully received.
Proof-read by Tony with instructions to print, but only after his ship has sailed
