Garden
Village face Landore, and this game kicks off at a speedy pace with the tackles
flying all over the park. The girls seem to know each others game plan, this
being their third clash in a matter of weeks. Garden Village look the
liveliest, with their passing, running and marking, they must all have had their
Weetabix for breakfast. With Garden Village pushing, trying to get a break
through, they get caught on the break, but with one half of the dynamic duo,
Caitlin in goal pulling off two superb saves, this game ends in a 0 – 0 draw.
The
girls now face Pontlliw. Yet another fast and furious start to the game, with
lots of confident tackles, the forwards pass to each other with ease, despite a
few windmill arms flying about from the opposition. With 6 shots on goal, Garden
Village are obviously desperate to get the ball in the back of the net. Finally,
Bex gets the first goal, coming from moves started deep in the Garden village
half, where Pontlliw were unable to handle the pace of our girls. The second
goal by Bex hits the back of the net within seconds, but in the final minutes of
the game Pontlliw manage to sneak 2 goals past, making the final score 2 – 2.
For
the final match of this Sunday morning against, Bancfosffelin,
a team talk from Coach Tim sees the girls running onto the pitch with
glints in their eyes, definitely on a mission to get the team the victory they
deserve. Within seconds of the kick-off, Hannah heads to the goal and boots the
ball into the back of the net. With the two Megan’s in defence and Sian in goal, the
opposition have their work cut out, as nothing is getting past them in this
match. The ball is passed forward by the defence, and picked up by Hannah, who
beats four Bancfosffelin players to slot the ball in the back of the net for the
second time in this match. Hannah’s Mum has a look of dismay on her face as
she knows her purse will be a little lighter if another goal is scored. Sian
makes an awesome save, kicks the ball out to Taylor-Leigh, who passes to Hannah
to finish, for her hat trick (Mum definitely has a lighter purse today). Final
Score 3 - 0
All the girls had an excellent days football, with a huge improvement throughout
the squad, this looks to be a promising season.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GIRLS

A well-equipped reporter takes notes.
"If the girls kick the ball forward, is it going up the field, or down the
field?"

Garden Village vs Landore
Strength
in depth was confirmed as despite two key absentees from the squad, Garden
Village were still commanding in their opening encounter. A steely Landore were
no push over but Garden Village proved to be an irresistible force with a
mesmeric display from Emily Jones being the pick of the performances.
Garden Village vs Dafen
Another close contest, gripping from start to finish. Although they went a
goal down to a long range effort, Garden Village remained focused. Building on
strong performances in defence, they forced their way back into the game. Once
another crisp from Hannah Williams had pulled them level, they looked like they
might have the momentum to go on and snatch the win. Dafen though are a tough
nut to crack.

Garden Village vs Landore
It's said that a good squad is an optimum blend of youth and experience. The result of the U10s inaugural game showed they're on track to reaching this nirvana. Three unanswered strikes reflected Garden Village's dominance and were well deserved on the back of strong performances throughout the team. The fact that all three came from the boot of Hannah Williams confirmed that last season's Player of the Year accolade was no mere fluke.
Garden Village vs Dafen
Game 2 offered a stern test in the classy Dafen but Garden Village still took the lion's share of possession. Unfortunately, in an otherwise solid defensive performance, a couple of momentary lapses of concentration handed Dafen the initiative. They were their only clear chances of the game but were clinically taken.
Having gone behind though Garden Village refused to capitulate, doggedly continuing to drive forward and create chances. Hannah Williams yet again provided the cutting edge, which saw the girls put themselves back into the game. Buoyant support almost lifted the girls to a deserved equaliser but, unfortunately, it was one of those days where it just wouldn't come

Garden Village Juniors Under 10s are playing their
first season in this new age group, although some of the players
are the younger veterans of last years Colts Under 11 team, who were playing
against teams much older and bigger than them
(and very successfully). It will be interesting to see how they do, now that
they will be picking on someone their own size.
They play 7-a-side
mini-football.
With over 40 players from all three age
groups at training, and registered on 5th September it is looking good for the
new season. Welcome to all the new girls, and welcome back to all the regulars.
Good luck for the new season !
All players need to have completed their registration forms.
If you have not yet registered, contact Louise.
Subs of
£10/month are payable at the first training session of the month from
September to April
