my name is barry waters, i’m a student currently studying art & aesthetics at uwic in cardiff .and this is my art. if you wondering what the hell this is all about well let me explain. this work is the result a culmination of the years work ending up at this point. i was requested by my course to publicize my work over the last year to show what i had learnt and how my work had progressed. so instead of just writing an essay explaining what I had done, i thought i'd show where my work had progressed too by displaying a work of mine. in this work i wanted to show aspects of things i learned and to display in which direction my work was headed. the question in the work was asking you was if knew what the dots where? and i had many people tell me what they thought it was, but the real answer is that it is ‘nothing’. the dots are as abstract as I could get and the idea was to literally ask the audience what these dots represented but the joke is that they really represent how ridiculousness of some abstract art. i ask them to tell me what they think it means when it means really nothing. the viewers reaction to the work and the viewer trying to work out what it all meant was what i wanted to create .the reason for displaying the work in the streets as graffiti and posters (examples below in pics 1&2), instead of displaying the work in a gallery setting was to expose the work to everyday people as they walk past the work in the streets. and i also felt it was a better way to publicize the work. i also placed little pieces of paper with the dots on them with the question and the e-mail address at public places like cinemas, bars, restaraunts and shops. I decided also to display this all on badly designed website to keep with the feeling of the underground feel of the whole project. this is my work. please let me know what you think by e-mailing me.
