Fransowors

A large, flamboyantly-dressed, jackhammer-packing woman.

Trivia

  • Fransowors made her first appearance in the 1992 IREM arcade video game Undercover Cops as the boss of the second level, "Goddess Hungry for Blood". Said game was later ported to the Japanese Super Famicom in 1995 by Varie. There were initially plans to release this home port overseas as well, on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), but, unfortunately, this never happened and the game remained a Japanese exclusive.

  • In the "World" version of the Undercover Cops arcade game, Fransowors was unimaginatively and derogatorily renamed "Fatso".

  • There's also a 1993 Gameboy version of Undercover Cops, called Undercover Cops Gaiden: Hakaishin Garumaa, but it's much different than the arcade and Super Famicom versions. Instead of a beat-em-up, it's a board/role playing game hybrid.

BACKGROUND:

The year is 2043. The city is overrun with criminals--gang members, cyborgs, and even cannibalistic molemen--that terrorize and prey upon the citizens on a daily basis. And, to make matters worse, the nefarious Dr. Crayborn is threatening to annihilate the municipality, and its millions of citizens, with a nuclear weapon. In desperation, with the police unable to control the streets, the mayor, and his council, decide to employ a small group of "City Sweepers" to put an end to these evildoers. They select: Zan, a disgraced karate master who accidentally killed a man while protecting his girlfriend; Max, a former pro football star banned from the sport after being framed for crimes he didn't commit; and Rosa, a female vigilante who lost her lover to the villains the couple once hunted together. Together the trio make up the Undercover Cops (U.C.C.) unit.

Fransowors is one of the criminal ringleaders the U.C.C. will have to face if they hope to save their city. She controls the area that encompasses the abandoned train yard, industrial freight elevator, and crumbling suspension bridge. She's also a mother figure of sorts to the hordes of lovely Foxes.

ABILITIES:

  • Great Strength

  • Fransowors is surprisingly strong, even for a woman of her impressive size. She lifts and swings her jackhammer about as though the heavy tool weighs nothing at all. Fransowors can also endure an incredible amount of abuse from her opponents in a brawl before throwing in the towel (although not without copious amounts of tears).

  • Jackhammer

  • Fransowors wields a large, portable jackhammer as her weapon of choice. She uses this item as a bludgeon, a piercing tool, and as an instrument to create small, localized earthquakes [In the game this results in rocks, motorcycles and Foxes (not the animal, scantily-clad female enemies) raining down from above]. This tool is electromechanical and is internally powered by five rechargeable chemical batteries that provide enough energy to operate the jackhammer for roughly one hour (continuous use) under normal conditions.

WEAKNESSES:

  • Crybaby

  • Contrary to her intimidating appearance, Fransowors is actually a very sensitive person. She breaks into sobbing fits with very little provocation. Obviously, such antics are detrimental in the middle of a battle, unless, of course, a particularly compassionate adversary decides to take pity on her (which they probably won't live to regret).

  • Prolonged Jackhammer Usage

  • Her long-term utilization of jackhammers has resulted in several health problems, namely blood circulation failure in the fingers, carpal tunnel syndrome, and hearing loss.

For comparison purposes, below are several images of Fransowors from the three versions of Undercover Cops. The first picture is from the arcade game; Fransowors' jackhammer vibrations have just caused a motorcycle to plummet down from above. The second image is of Fransowors bawling; this is from the Super Famicom port. The final photo is a collection of several screens from the Gameboy board game.
