Bestiary and Spell Book

  • ASCII's 1993 Uiza-dorii Gaiden III: Yami no Seiten (Wizardry Side Story III: Scripture of the Dark) is an old gray-scale Gameboy roleplaying game (RPG). I wanted to try something a bit different, presentation-wise, for this bestiary, so I decided to color all of the black and white sprites (using the GIMP software.) Some of the hue choices are my own, while others are based on appearances by the creatures in other Wizardry installments (particularly 1996's Super Famicom Wizardry Gaiden IV: Throb of the Demon's Heart, the prequel, story-wise, to this game, which updates many of the monster sprites from Scripture of the Dark.)

    Teleportation spell. When used in battle, the party will instantly escape the conflict and be whisked away to a random location in the current area. When used outside of battle, you can teleport the party to any coordinates that you've previously visited in the current area. Beware: Teleporting into solid stone is instantly fatal to the entire party.

  • Mahaman: (Mahaman): [Combat]
    Wish spell. A divine entity will appear and give the party a choice of three random boons (revive/heal the entire party, grant a huge temporary AC bonus, replenish all spell slots, restore experience levels drained by monsters, annihilate all enemies, disable monster spells and breath attacks, etc.) Beware: Casting this spell will permanently drain the caster of one experience level, so save it for life-or-death situations.

    Ultimate offensive spell. Deals 10-150 points of non-elemental damage to all enemies.

  • Mawxiwtz: (Maujiutsu): [Combat]
    Greater prismatic spray that may inflict random amounts of damage, negative status effects, or death, on all enemies.
