Animated Bestiary

- 24 Entries Total -
(15 regular enemies, 3 sub-bosses, and 6 bosses)

  • I increased the size of all of these sprites 300% from their original resolution, for easier viewing. So, in other words, a sprite that was 18 pixels tall to start with is 54 pixels tall here. All the image frames were captured, and animated, by myself using the 'GIMP' software. All copyrighted images, names, etc. seen on this page belong to Konami, not to me. These animated sprites are presented for informational/archival purposes only.

  • Hit Points refers to how much damage each creature can take before it is slain. The number given assumes successful strikes from Sonia's normal (i.e., not powered-up) whip. If you strengthen the weapon by collecting orbs, or use one of the other special attacks available to Sonia, you should be able to eliminate the enemies more quickly/efficiently.

  • Attack power refers to the amount of damage an enemy does to Sonia. The first number listed represents direct physical contact with the monster. If applicable, additional numbers represent other types of attack (usually projectiles) which vary from creature-to-creature.

  • Encounter Locations are where, in the video game's 'universe' you may find specimens of each creature. There are five normal stages in the game, as well as one secret one. Strong 'Boss' and 'Sub-Boss' characters only appear once. Bats can be found on every level, while the rest of the minor enemies are less common.
    • Stage 1: Inside The Castle
    • Stage 2: Outside The Castle
    • Stage 3: The Clock Tower
    • Stage 4: The Top Floor of The Castle
    • Stage 5: The Cathedral
    • Stage 6: Castle Dungeon (Secret)

  • Because Castlevania: Legends supports Super Gameboy programming, the color of the monsters will vary depending on which stage you're playing (the game changes the 4-hue pallette each level, for variety). For example, all of the Stage 1 enemies have a greenish tint to them, Stage 3 monsters are brownish, etc.--for the purpose of simplicity, I used the color scheme of each monster's first appearance.

  • If you see any errors/omissions, or would just like to comment, please e-mail me and let me know what you think.

    • Special thanks to "Jack Pauro Colombia", at the Video Game Museum forums, for providing me with the link to the Castlevania Wikia Castlevania Legends bestiary, which lists the names for the creatures from an official Japanese game guide.

Sonia's lover and Dracula's half-vampire son, born from the loins of a mortal woman. Alucard will test Sonia's resolve before he will allow her to continue onward on her quest to destroy his father. He attacks with a dashing sword slash, double fireballs, and will also transform into a bat, and back, to rapidly cover the screen's length.

Locations
A fearsome knight that suddenly dashes forward with its blade, cutting a swath through any foes that stand in its' way. The shield will block fireballs from Sonia's fully powered-up whip if you attack the armor from the front (strike from behind instead, or crouch and aim for its' unprotected feet). This is the strongest lesser enemy--don't underestimate it.

Locations
The dark lord of the castle is your final opponent. In his first, humanoid form, Dracula will warp about his throne room, stopping only to lift his cape/wing and spray a wave of five energy orbs towards Sonia's current location.

Dracula's second, true form is that of a titanic, bat-like creature, composed of ectoplasm--the writhing faces of the many souls the vampire lord has claimed over the years can be clearly seen, trapped inside his unnatural flesh. The skeletal, horned head will teleport around the room, pausing at each stop to unleash multiple energy orbs which radiate outwards in a circle formation. Only the head can be damaged, and take care that Sonia doesn't fall, or get knocked, into one of the two holes in the floor and instantly die.
