2009 Purse Info: $500 for first place each race based on 25-car field. Please call Larry Walls for more details.
The Walls Roofing UCAR Clash has placed a $100.00 bounty on #12 Keith Brame Jr. Keith has won all three of the UCAR Clash races this year.
Keith has not dominated the Clash but has out drove the field at every race. It is time to put this bounty on Keith to see if we can get the best UCAR drivers out there to try and out run Mr. Brame Jr and take the bounty home with them.
If no one wins the bounty at East Carolina Motor Speedway on June 6th the bounty will increased by 25.00 at the Wake County Speedway race on June 26th
David Roebuck and Larry P. Walls are proud to announce that on June 6, 2009 the Walls Roofing UCAR Clash for Cash will be at the East Carolina Motor Speedway. With the some of the VA tracks not running UCARS on that night we should have a big car count. Purse and times will be released as soon as we have them.
Thanks,
Larry P. Walls
The UCAR Clash Series took to the dirt for the second time this year, but the result was the same — Keith Brame Jr. strolled easily into County Line Speedway's victory lane.
Though last season saw no repeat winners on the Clash tour, Brame has dominated the series this year, winning the first three races in a row.
Ben Walker of Gibsonville and Travis Taylor of LaGrange won the two opening heat races, setting the 14-car feature field. Braime didn't finish well in his heat race, but stormed through the field to be in the lead with the dust settled after 25-laps.
The race was slowed by only one caution flag, a crash involving Mike Srickland, Robert Arch, Shane Phillips and Taylor.
Brame also collected the Foss Auto Recycling hard charger of the race award as well as the $50 Walls' Roofing bonus money.
Second place went to Walker, third went to Mike Chapman in his first race on dirt, Jason Miller was fourth and David Kerns finished fifth.
It is no surprise the Walls’ Roofing UCAR Clash series’ most experienced dirt driver took the checkered flag for the series’ first ever race on a non-paved track.
Keith Brame Jr., of Gibsonville, passed early leader Robert Arch of Clayton on his way to his second Clash victory of the year.
Brame, who runs regularly on dirt at 311 Motor Speedway in Madison, became the first driver to repeat as a winner in the UCAR Clash for Cash series.
In the first qualifying heat race, Robert Arch pulled out to an early lead over Richmond Virginia's Renno Marchetti, who started at the rear of the field due to his top three finishing position in the March race.
In the second heat, Brame, who also started at the rear, pulled ahead to an early lead, taking the checkered over Jason Miller and Shane Phillips.
Though it was many drivers’ first time on a dirt track, both heat races went caution free.
In the feature, Arch was an early leader, but was passed by Brame. Arch brought out the first caution of the day, as his car experienced troubles on the backstretch.
Once the race restarted, Brame pulled out to his comfortable lead as Arch tried to work his way back through the field. The caution flew again a short time later as Travis Taylor’s T3 spun down the backstretch after contact from another car.
As the field was bunched up again, Arch had worked his way back into the top five. A few laps later, the F1 car made contact with Drew Starling’s #54 on the front stretch, sending Starling on a wild ride into and on top of the inside retaining wall.
For the second race in a row, the Clash Series’ stringent safety requirements kept a driver safe after a vicious impact.
Once the race restarted, the action was heated with less than 10 laps to go. Contact sent Miller, Shane Phillips and several other drivers into a pile up in turn four, setting up a final restart with five laps remaining.
On the single file restart, Brame pulled off into the sunset, taking the win and the $500 grand prize. Arch crossed the line second, Marchetti third, Phillips fourth and Mike Strickland in fifth.
After the race, Series Director Larry Walls and chief tech inspector Randy Pearce made the decision to disqualify Arch from the race, on the grounds of rough driving. Pearce met with drivers in the pits following the event and said incidents resulting from heavy contact on the straight-aways would not be tolerated in the future.
The decision moved Marchetti up to second, a strong showing for the Virginia driver, who had never made a lap on a dirt track. Marchetti also received the Walls’ Roofing bonus award for being the highest finishing car with the company logo on the side.
For the second race in a row, Fayetteville’s Jason Beck received the hard charger bonus, for gaining the most positions in the race. Beck started the race at the tail of the field in 12th, but finished seventh.
The series now heads into its second dirt race of the season at County Line Raceway in Elm City. Brame is on a hot streak this year, winning every race he has entered. In addition to his Clash victories, Brame has won three races at Ace Speedway and two at 311.
However, now that some of the other drivers have caught on to the dirt tracks, the County Line race should be strongly contested.
Ace Speedway champion Keith Brame Jr. dominated the Walls' Roofing UCAR Clash for Cash North/South Spring Shootout, a wild race that included several caution flags and two red flag periods.
Southside Speedway's Renno Marchetti IV and Raleigh's Kevin Herndon won the two opening heat races, setting the field for the 50 lap feature event.
The race started calmly enough, but the tranquility wouldn't last long. The caution would fly on lap 7 for a spin by Michael Strickland. A few laps latter, Raleigh's Jim Bounds would spin, setting up a strange series of events under caution.
Drivers Sammy "Showtime" Pacitti and Virginia's Michael Waters made heavy contact under caution causing damage to both cars. The jockeying for position under caution forced officials to throw the red flag to re-organize the field.
Kevin Herndon continued his early lead as the action heated up and three-wide bumping and grinding was the norm. The caution would fly yet again a short time later, with Pacitti, Waters and Kenneth Parton colliding after running three wide.
Once green flag racing continued, it didn't take long for trouble to rear its head again. Strickland and Ronnie Devera would set off the hardest crash of the day, with Strickland backing his machine into the track's crossover gate and destroying his #9 Saturn. The red flag flew again for cleanup but Strickland wasn't injured in the wreck.
A short time later, Herndon made contact with the outside retaining wall, ending his day and chances at winning at his home speedway. Keith Brame Jr. took over the lead and wouldn't look back. Several subsequent restarts gave other drivers a chance to race for position. In the end it was Brame, Marchetti, Mike Chapman, Robert Arch and Shane Phillips rounding out the top five. Parton worked his way back through the field for a sixth place run, Jason Miller finished seventh, Jason Beck Eighth, Waters ninth and David Wiggins 10th. Beck, who started 17th, passed the most cars and won the Hard Charger award.
The UCAR Clash for Cash series will visit Fayetteville Motor Speedway on April 25 for their second race of the season and first ever race on a dirt surface!
UCAR Clash Race from Wake County
by Mason Dunn
Saturday has come and gone and the 2009 season of the UCAR Clash for Cash series is officially under way. While many tracks that house these backyard barn burners are still in their off-season 19 UCAR teams from North Carolina and Virginia made their way out to the ¼ mile bullring known as Wake County Speedway for the first ever North/South Spring Clash. Teams representing a diverse group of tracks including Ace, Wake County, Langley and Southside took on the track and each other on a mid-March Saturday that saw some great racing weather albeit a bit on the chilly side. In the pits there was a great sense of camaraderie between the teams and many who were willing to help each other throughout the day to try to make sure that everyone got the chance to race in the feature. This is a feeling that series coordinator Larry Walls hopes and believes will continue through the rest of the season.
For those fans who took advantage of the 5 dollar ticket prices being offered were giving way more then their money’s worth in on-track action. From seeing the stars of tomorrow take the track in the Junior Mini Cup race to the hard nosed door slamming fender bending action in the 50 lap UCAR feature the day was full of high value entertainment. The heat races which saw two lucky fans win the chance to ride in the pace car, the same was done in the main, featured some great door to door racing. The first heat which determined the inside row of the starting line up for the feature got off to a rocky start with the 87 of Matt Grines getting turned in the first corner in front of the entire field. Luckily no one made major contact and everyone continued on. The race went the rest of the way without seeing another caution and had a great battle for the win between the 58 of Kevin Herndon and the 18 of Mike Chapman. It was a great NC-VA battle with NC taking the win this round by about half a car length. The second heat of the day, determining the outside starting row, saw some drivers day come to an early end as the B2 of Ben Walker and the 54 of Drew Starling were unable to make the green flag. The race once again came down to a battle of two drivers from different states. Renno Marchetti IV out of Virginia pitted his blue 01 against the flat black F1 of Robert Arch from North Carolina and this time it was the Virginian that pulled out the win and earned a spot on the front row.
The feature would continue to showcase this North Carolina-Virginia battle as the top 4 were beating and banging fighting for every inch that they could find on the track. Representing Carolina was the K12 of Keith Brame Jr and the F1 of Robert Arch and in the other corner was Virginia drivers Mike Chapman in the 18 and Renno Marchetti IV in the 01. The race although a bit plagued with cautions was also filled with great 2 and 3 wide racing, beating and banging down the straights and in the corners and a whole mess of other on-track action that had everyone in the stands either standing or on the edge of their seats. From my perspective up in the tower sitting behind the computer being there was worth every minute of my day and I look forward to the next clash race that I am able to go to and cover this exciting up and coming series.

Thanks to the work of a great race fan and a car owner from Wake County Speedway, Broughton High School will build a UCAR to be raced in the Clash for Cash and at WCS. The car will be built and driven by students.
Now here is the best part- Mr Brantley is working on getting all of the High Schools in Wake County, Johnson County, and Harnett County to build cars and complete in a points type deal to see who can build and drive the best UCAR. Not only could this be big for WCS but if all tracks could call their local High Schools maybe this could bring a whole new group of new racers and fans to our tracks. Just think in one of our local high schools could be your next Nascar driver or one of the best mechanics at any level of racing.
If your school would like to know more you can bring your shop class to Wake County Speedway on March 21st and see the UCAR North/South Spring Clash Race, or you can have your teacher call me at 919-291-0938 to find how to get started building your UCAR.
The first race for the Walls Roofing UCAR Clash for Cash at Wake Co. on March 21, 2009 will be broadcasted live (audio only, MRN style). Wesley Outland will anchor the broadcast. The broadcast team will be updated as announcers are added. Sponsorship packages are available to help pay for the air time.
As of now, December 20, 2008 the show and live race broadcasts that are produced by Victory Lane Productions will air on RaceFanRadio.com but that may change. (possibly to RaceTalkRadio.com)
