PC: When did you begin your music career?
SW: At the impressionable age of 13, I asked my parents for a guitar
for X-mas, and they bought me a Memphis electric guitar painted in Eddie
Van Halen's paint scheme. I thought I was the coolest. Unfortunately,
all I could play was "plink, Plink, plink...plink" because
they didn't get me an amp until the following Christmas. I took up the
acoustic years later (when I was about 22) and started playing
exclusively that until recently. I'm now working on an electric
full-band project called Falling Faster.
PC: Who are your main musical influences?
SW: Edwin McCain, Tori Amos, Rick Springfield, Rob Thomas and Jeffrey
Gaines.
PC: Where can someone get copy of your EP "The 16 Days"?
SW: You can pick it up in Denton, TX at Hastings, or you can buy it
online at CDbaby.com or towerrecords.com or at a show.
PC: If you had to pick a couple of songs you have written or
recorded that you are most proud of, what would they be and why?
SW: I'm most proud
of "Day Turns Into Night" because it's the most personal and
meaningful song to me. It was written from the perspective of someone
close to me. I imagined what I would feel in their shoes at the loss of
a parent. "Perfect" is a close second because it's about me
and when I met my wife.
PC: Is there anybody that you would like to perform with or do a duet
with?
SW: I want to do a
duet with Tori Amos, but I'd LOVE to perform with a harder band like
Sugar Cult or Fall Out Boy. I love that sound and it would be such a
high-energy show.
PC: What are your fondest career memories so far?
SW: Touring this
summer and meeting such cool people and talented musicians. The world
can be a hard and shitty place, but then you meet some amazing,
beautiful, good-hearted people and it's brighter for them.
PC: Do you have a preference when it comes to playing, whether it's
acoustic or electric?
SW: I love playing acoustic and it's been my life for years, but I
have an itch to "rock out" now.
PC: Where do you want to be in the next few years with your music
career? Any long term goals?
SW: Honestly, I want to play massive shows in front of millions of
people. But who doesn't? Just to be in a room where people sing along
with music I've written and know the words means more to me than
anything else.
PC: If not for music, what would you be doing as a career?
SW: I'm a thrill-seeker.. Something dangerous.
PC: What CD would be found in your CD player right now?
SW: "The American Tragedy/welcome to the show.
