Elemental Digimon Ch.1

Several Centuries had passed since the coming of the humans. Their arrival into the Digital Plain led to great prosperity for the Digimon, the creatures who dwelt in the Digital World, yet still, it also foretold a great calamity. The power that the humans brought with them allowed special Digimon to increase in power, allowing them to defeat their foes. However, this power was wanted by more digimon, so as soon a war erupted.

The Human world, Earth, and the Digital World were cast into a great, terrible, and costly war, one which spelt doom for the weaker humans. According to legend, a powerful Digimon cast the human world into darkness, destroying the majority of the human population. In order to prevent the same consequence from happening to the Digital World, another powerful Digimon sealed each and every gateway to the Human World.

The power that the humans had given to the Digimon was thought lost forever, until the recovery of several of their artifacts from the first eight humans to cross the realm. However, no one knows how to unlock the power. It is believed that a human must hold the device for the Digimon to gain its power, but the gateways have all been closed. They still exist, however, in a dormant state, waiting for the day that they should be opened once again…

“Wow…. That’s a neat-o story, Mom….”

Tenchumon, a small, dual-tailed fox Digimon, sat hunched in front of his mother, Gikitsunemon, an old, wise fox Digimon by the fireside. Gikitsunemon sat in a rocking chair, slowly rocking back and forth, while small Tenchumon sat at her feet. Tenchumon stared with bright, blue eyes into his mother’s face. She was getting old, especially with hard times as this.

“It’s true… Tenchumon… does you see the amulet you were around your neck?”

Gikitsunemon was referring to the pale blue amulet that Tenchumon wore. He looked down, fondling it for a second, before looking up again. He was confused.

“This thing? It doesn’t even work.”

Gikitsunemon chuckled, love in her eyes at her naïve son. If only he knew what that was. The amulet had been passed down through the generations. It was one of the artifacts that she spoke of in her story. Tenchumon glanced down at his amulet again. It was rather old, the blue was beginning to chip off. But ever since he was born, he had that amulet, never losing it, never letting out of his sight.

Tenchumon lived in Kelpoi, an icy village close to the very north point of the Continent. Its residents, all fire-element Digimon, meaning that the source of their power came from fire, were naturally resistant to the cold. The town lived in harmony with itself; its residents respected one another. It was peaceful. However…

“Open UP! It’s time for taxes!”

A cold, harsh voice, along with constant pounding on the heavy, wooden door, shook Tenchumon out of his dreamy state. He huddled close to his mother’s feet, terribly frightened, as the door was torn down from the outside.

“Under order of Saldaramon, the Deraider X will take possession of your food and drink.”

A pair of large Digimon, called Incendamon, whom looked like giant caldrons with giant, metal studded hands and boots, moved slowly through the humble abode of Tenchumon and his mother, looking for anything that resembled food. Upon finding nothing, one of the Incendamon turned towards Gikitsunemon. Tenchumon scowled.

They’re such pigs! How dare they come in like that?! What’s with this Saldaramon? He takes the food of the entire village, leaving us with barely anything to eat! It’s not fair!

But Tenchumon held his tongue. He didn’t want his mother to suffer should he really express his feelings. However, the nearest Incendamon noticed his scowl. Reaching down, he gripped Tenchumon by the scruff of the neck, lifting him up, ignoring the protest of the young Digimon. The Incendamon held Tenchumon at face level.

“You got a problem with the way we run things, twerp?”

Tenchumon just scowled, avoiding eye contact. He was terrified, yet extremely upset. It was all he could do to avoid kicking the Incendamon in the chin. All he said with a small “Humph”, folding his paws in agitation.

The Incendamon laughed, dropping the Digimon. Tenchumon landed hard, wincing in pain. Quickly, he scurried back to his mother, whimpering.

“M… Mom….” v Gikitsunemon stroked Tenchumon’s soft red fur. “Don’t worry… they’ll leave soon….”

“You bet we will… there’s nothing in this dump….”

The Incendamon turned to leave, but the last one tripped over a rug, a rug covering what appeared to be a secret door, cleverly hidden under Gikitsunemon’s chair. The Incendamon turned furious in a flash.

“Witch!”

Rearing back, the nearest Incendamon broad handed Gikitsunemon on her face, smacking her to the side. Tenchumon gasped in horror. How could this barbarians hit his own mother?!

“You jerk!”

Tenchumon leapt up, sinking his small teeth into Incendamon’s leather covered arm. The bite didn’t even penetrate the thick leather. Incendamon looked at the small fox Digimon, smirking, before grabbing his head. Ripping Tenchumon from his arm, Incendamon hurled the young Digimon to the side. Tenchumon slammed into a cabinet with such force that the cabinet broke into several pieces. Tenchumon almost blacked out. He stumbled to his feet, red blood dripping from his mouth were the leather had torn his gums. He shivered in fury and exhaustion.

“You…. Asshole….leave my mom alone….”

The Incendamon started laughing. Their deep belly snorts infuriated Tenchumon even more. But one thing stopped him from attacking once more, a worrying glance from his mother. Tenchumon was shocked. The look he saw from his mother was most horrifying. It was a pleading glance, one that Tenchumon recognized immediately.

“Tenchumon….go….now….”

His mother’s plea was exactly what he had feared. Tenchumon had been ordered to abandon everything he held dear. His mother was dying, this much Tenchumon already knew. But the stress of the Incendamon had pushed her over the edge; she wouldn’t last much longer. And Gikitsunemon could never rest in peace if she died leaving her son to the evil clutches of the Saldaramon and the Incendamon. Tenchumon squeezed his eyes shut, tears flowing out in a sudden overflow of emotion, before turning and dashing out of the door.

“Don’t worry, Mom! I’ll be back!”

Tenchumon ran as fast as he could, tearing through the ice covered village. Slipping as he ran, Tenchumon never turned back, fearing for his life. The sun reflected off the ice, blinding Tenchumon as he ran. But still, he never stopped running. Suddenly, there was a hill; Tenchumon started climbing. The snow and ice made the going rough, but he never stopped, not till he got to the very top. There, he turned around.

Tears filled Tenchumon’s eyes. He looked down on his village, seeing his home, seeing the entire village. The knowledge that he couldn’t return filled his heart with pain. It was possible… that he would never see his mother again. Tenchumon sat on his hunches and howled out in pain.

“MOM!!”
