Robert Craft home page

I want to welcome you to my home page, my name is Robert Craft and This page is all about me. I joined the Army in July 26 1966 and took my basic training at Fort Polk Louisiana. After Basic Training I was sent to Fort Rucker Alabama to attend Aviation School. After graduation from Fort Rucker I was sent to Fort Bliss Texas. I served a year at Fort Bliss then I was sent to Viet Nam. I was assigned to the 183 Reconnaissance Airplane co. in Dong ba Thin. I stayed there for three to four months and then was sent to the 10th.Combat Avaition Battallon in Dong Ba Thin. After my company Cammander crashed my airplane that I was assign to, I was then sent to Bam me Thoit at the 155 assault Helicopter Co. I have been in Viet Nam little over 13 months and have extended for 6 months. So I had some time to do before I would be rotating back to the states. Rotating back to the states was the last thing on my mind that day. I was flying from Bam me thuot to Dong Ba Thin When I notice lots of people were waiting at the helipad for me to land. The company clerk told me he was here to take me to Cam Ranh Bay for rotating back to the states. I told him that I have extended for 6 months and he must have the wrong person. He said that my extenion has been revoked and that my stuff has been packed and taken to the Post Office for shipment to the States. I asked him where in the states was I being assigned and he advised me I would be going to Fort Belvoir Va. I ask him why was it revolked? He told me that the American Red Cross told the Company Cammander that my mother is very sick and I was needed at home. I was processed out of the country at Cam Ranh Bay and was sent to Fort Lewis Washington for futher processing. I had trouble getting out of the airport due to the severe weather But there was a break in the weather and I finally took off from Tacoma Washington and I was on my way to Dallas Texas. After landing in Dallas I remember calling everybody that I could remember and informing them that I was safe in Dallas and I would be flying out of Dallas as soon as I could. After I spent about a month at home I was sent to Fort Belvior Virgina. Lucky me huh I walked right into the Martin Luther Kings Riot. I remember thinking Can you belive this, after all that I been through. I finally ETS Jul 26 1969 and was on my home to Monroe Louisiana.
