Merit Badge Participants,

We invite you to our 8th Annual Scout Memorabilia Collections Merit Badge Class held during the 2009 Lone Star Trade O Ree at 7pm on Friday June 5th at St Francis Church Family Life Center in Grapevine, Texas. There is no cost to scout attendees or their families and SURPRISE!...We will give away $200 worth of scout memorabilia at the end of the class!!! My Qualifications

30 years of Scout Memorabilia collecting. Attended 1973/1977 National Jamborees, 14 OA Area Conclaves, 3 NOAC TOR's and Manager of CCS and Woapalanne Trading Post. Chairman of 22 Lone Star TOR's.

Do at Home or complete at advance Merit Badge Session

Requirement 1
Be prepared to describe for your counselor this type of collecting and what you currently have

Remember, this merit badge teaches you how to collect, protect, and value what you have and what you might want to collect in the future.

Requirement 2
Explain the growth and development of your collection.

Example. I attended the 1969 OA Conclave at Lake Texoma and traded my first patch. After that, I attended other OA Conclaves and 2 National Jamborees to increase my collection.

Requirement 7
Discuss with your counselor how you can continue with your collection in the future. Example: I loved the art and design of patches. As an adult, I oftentimes trade patches through the mail with other Scout adults throughout the country.

Do with Counselor at event that features a Youth Auction

Requirement 3
Demonstrate how to preserve and display collection (similar to baseball cards) Example. I went to Michaels, bought a display case for $10 and bring it to Court of Honors for scouts to view. Complete at Trade O Ree Friday June 5th 7pm

Req 3a Handling, Cleaning, Storage. Example. I use plastic baggies to hold patches. Complete at Trade O Ree event. Friday June 5th 7pm

Req 3b What Shows, Conventions, etc Example. 2009 National OA Conference is one of the best to trade.

Requirement 4
Demonstrate your knowledge of collecting and investing. Discuss with your counselor a/ investing b/ what you look for and c/ return value for what you can sell your collection for. Discuss at Merit Badge Session and Complete at Trade O Ree on June 5th 7pm

Requirement 5
Req 5a Discuss 10 common terms eg. CSP, OA Flap, etc
Req 5b Show any 2 groups from your collection
Req 5c Value of your collection and price guides
Req 5d Grading classifications. Complete at Trade O Ree Friday June 5th 7pm
Req 5e Collectors Associations. ISCA, Badgers, etc

Requirement 6
a/b/c/d What makes a patch an official scout patch? Complete at Trade O Ree Friday June 5th 7pm

Requirement 8
Discuss career opportunities. Complete at Trade O Ree Friday June 5th 7pm
