We left our home in Southeast, Texas at midnight, Friday January 26, 2001, to drive 1552.30 miles to Cupid's Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas,  Nevada to be married on January 29, 2001, which was the second anniversary of our first date. We drove northwest to Amarillo, then west across the Texas Panhandle, New Mexico, Arizona and on to Las Vegas Nevada. By noon the next day we had driven 691.80 miles to Amarillo, Texas, where it  started snowing on us. Because of the snow, it took us another 12 hours, driving 30 miles an hour, to drive the 288.46 miles from Amarillo to Albuquerque, New Mexico. We stopped in Albuquerque to eat, about 10:pm Saturday night. Before we finished eating we were informed that all highways had been closed. It wasn't until noon the next day, Sunday, the 28th, that the highways were reopened. We arrived in Las Vegas at 10:pm Sunday night.

The snow was an added dimension to our wedding/honeymoon trip, as neither of us had ever seen an accumulation of snow. From Amarillo to Albuquerque there were cars and eighteen wheel trucks turned over on their sides, off the highway. As nerve wracking as it was driving on the snow and ice, it is an experience that we both cherish.

We were married at Cupid's wedding Chapel at 8:pm on January 29, 2001, two (2) years, to the hour, from the time of our first date.

Because we were snowed in for twelve (12) hours, and we stopping to visit and take pictures at several Historic Sites in New Mexico and Arizona, the trip took us a total of about 48 hours.

We traveled on the famous Route 66 Mother Road for the distance of 756.21 miles, from Amarillo, Texas to Kingman, Arizona.

We stopped in Continental Divide, New Mexico, where the rain fall in the United States divides.  The rain that falls to the east of the point drains into the Atlantic Ocean, the rain that falls to the west drains into the Pacific Ocean.

After we left Kingman, Arizona, we drove over the Hoover dam, and into Nevada. As we came down, out of the mountains, we could see the lights of Las Vegas for miles.

From our house to Las Vegas.
Total Distance: 1,552.30 miles
Estimated Driving Time (Ideal conditions): 27 hours, 20 minutes
Our travel time: Approximately 48 hours
