For use in low light or total darkness to distinguish specific trails. Primary color marks in trail. White color shows exit or return direction.
Use:
Place a stick, with primary color facing the direction of travel, in a conspicuous location that light beams and field of vision is clear. The next stick is placed within line of sight in a conspicuous location. It is also a good thought to place one at confusing or multiple trail junctions. Make sure the white side can be seen when a light source hits it - IT IS YOUR WAY OUT!!! When several teams are working the same cave, use seperate primary colors - white is still the common way out.
To enhance the sticks for marking trails to cave entrances or search functions; we have added 12 hr chem lights and flagging tape. This makes them easy to spot both light and dark situations.
Construction:
Tongue depressors work best. Lay 10-20 sticks side by side on a work table. Take 1" reflective tape roll and place apply white to one side about 1" from an end of the sticks. Use a razor to cut the applied tape from the roll.
Turn the group of sticks over and repeat the process using primary color tape. Make sure you align the colored tape up with the white strip.
Use a safety razor to cut the sticks apart on one side then flip and repeat process.
Bundle 10-20 sticks and tape them together to carry.
