Bear Connection Inc. began as a dream in June 2000. A group of ex-Bowie Bears wanted to show their pride by creating a float commemorating Bowie High School's 75th Anniversary. Through a "bear network" the word soon spread to various alumni. Before long a group consisting of approximately 16 members, representing graduating classes from 1947 to 1980, met to discuss the possibility of raising funds for this project. Through determination and love of our school, we were able to raise over $4, 000 in just 3 months to make this happen. This group was known simply as The Bowie Float Committee. We needed a name which would represent a bond found only in Bowie Bears and with the diverse ages in the group, and the obvious choice was Bear Connection. Bear Connection Inc. was chartered in March, 2001 with only 22 members. our logo carries the old as well as the new Bowie mascots side by side, with a stream of water under both representing the Chamizal Treaty which was a very important moment in the history of "La Bowie". The circle around the two mascots represents the union connecting all generation, young and old. Though our organization is small, our desire to help Bowie students is enormous! Our membership is open to anyone interested in helping our cause, whether they are former Bowie students or not. We have members from schools such as Gadsen in Anthony, El Paso High, and yes - even "La Jeff" - who are committed to our cause. Our meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. We invite you to attend one of our meetings and see for yourself that you can work for a good cause and still have fun! Sincerely, President.
