The opening of the Czech exhibit at the

 Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC)

by Anna Krpec, CHS of Texas Trustee

The updated Czech Exhibit at ITC is open. My husband Ed, my mother and I
attended the opening festivities Sunday afternoon. In spite of the rainy
weather, a good number of people were in attendance. There was much
camaraderie and visiting between friends and acquaintances and a jovial
excitement was in the air in anticipation of the formal ribbon cutting.

Ladislav Zezula recognized several persons who were significant to the
project. Applause to the ribbon cutting, then everyone proceeded to view the
exhibit. Curator, Robert Janak has done a great job.

We can thank the Bexar County Chapter of The Czech Heritage Society for
starting the movement to redesign the Czech exhibit. They brought this need
to the attention of the Czech Heritage Society of Texas. A meeting was held
with ITC principals and the fund raising began. Progress reports and
opportunities to contribute were given at every CHS Executive Committee
meeting and every CHS State meeting. The Czech Heritage Society of Texas
made a large donation. Several chapters and many individuals made donations. Families loaned items for the kitchen display. The history of the Moravian  and Bohemian immigration to Texas is finally presented accurately.

I hope all CHS members, friends and family are able to get to San Antonio to
see this exhibit in the near future.

The Institute of Texan Cultures is located at 801 Bowie Street, San Antonio, Texas (near the Hemisphere Tower).
