America Online Graphics Problem

comp14.gif (3145 bytes)

Due to the way that the America Online web browser compresses graphics, on any web site, you will get poor quality or distorted pictures. They use their own version of compression that is called .ART and will convert .JPG, .GIF, .BMP graphics to their own format when shown. This was done to increase browsing speed but actually caused a lot of problems for all web sites and didn't really speed up the browser that much. To correct this problem you can go through the following steps to make your browser work just like all the others.

1. Click on My AOL button at top of your screen.
2. Click on Preferences.
3. Click on the WWW button.
4. Click on the Web Graphics tab at top.
5. Click on Use compressed graphics and make sure the box at the left has no check mark in it.
6. Click on the General tab at top.
7. Click on the Delete Files button in the Temporary Internet files section.
8. Click on Delete all offline contents to make sure the box is checked.
9. Click OK.
10. Click the OK button at the bottom.
11. Click the X in the upper right hand corner of the Preferences screen to close it.

You are now ready to view all web sites just as everyone else sees them.

Thank you.
