Clearing the Configuration Utility



Steps for clearing out the startup in Windows 2000 Pro
and Windows 95

Click on start
Then click on run
Then type in regedit
Then click on the plus next to HKEY_LOCL_MACHINE
Then click on the plus next to SOFTWARE
Then click on the plus next to Microsoft
Then click on the plus next to Windows
Then click on the plus next to CurrentVersion
Then click on the first item that says Run
Now on the right you will have several items listed,
these are the ones you need to keep.
NvCplDeamon (WIN2K)
Synchronization Manager (WIN2K)
Iexplore (WIN95)
System Tray (WIN95)

Once that is done close the Registry Editor and restart the computer.

For Windows 98, 98se, and ME.


Click on START
Then RUN
Type MSCONFIG
Click OK
Click the STARTUP tab
Uncheck all Items then go
back to the top and check back
SYSTEM TRAY
SCAN REGISTRY
TASK MONITOR
PCHEALTH (ME ONLY)
NORTON AUTO PROTECT (NAV)
LoadPowerProfile (BOTH INTRIES)
*STATE MGR (ME ONLY)
These items should be checked if you find them.
LTwinModem
StillImageMonitor
Roxio or Adaptec (DirectCD)
SonicMyDVD
DigitalLineDetect
Click APPLY and then OK

For Windows XP and XPpro.


Click on START
Then RUN
Type MSCONFIG
Click OK
Click the STARTUP tab
Click DISABLE ALL
These items should be checked if there.

StillImageMonitor
NORTON AUTO PROTECT (NAV)
Roxio or Adaptec (DirectCD)
SonicMyDVD
DigitalLineDetect
Click APPLY and CLOSE

SYSTEM RESTORE


WINDOWS XP

Start your computer to Safe Mode with
Command Prompt. Use F8 on start up.
Note: You must log on as the administrator
or a user that has administrator rights.
If you cann't boot to safe mode, start up
with the resource CD or bootable floppy.

At the c: prompt, type. . .

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

and then press ENTER.

From the Windows Me Desktop
Start - Programs - Accesories - System Tools - System Restore
From the C: prompt.
cd windows\command Then scanreg /restore
cd windows\command Then scanreg /fix

At the C: Prompt Only

cd windows\command Then scanreg /restore
cd windows\command Then scanreg /fix
