Uptime is a very simple app that monitors devices
to make sure they are accessible via ping. Uptime simply pings any
device you tell it to at a specified interval. If the device does
not respond then Uptime can run and an or send you an email. It
will log each attempt in a daily log file. You can look through
the log files with specific filters so you can quickly look at any
device.
The main purpose of Uptime is to give an admin a way to view
any patterns in network connectivity. In other words if you are
loosing connectivity to devices during the night you may not know
it. This is what I have found where I work. With Uptime I know
which device I could not communicate with and at what time. I also
know when the device was accessible again.
Again this is a very basic monitoring device and was not meant
to be an SNMP app, but it can be used to reveal patterns in
connectivity. |
