Maintenance

Computer maintenance is a key to keeping your computer working longer. Below are some tips to keeping things clean.

A start-up disk is a disk that has all the files you need to start up your computer incase Windows fails.

--To create a start-up disk

  1. Click Start, then select Settings, then Control Panel. The control panel window will open.
  2. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. That window will open.
  3. Click the Start-up Disk tab at the top of the dialog box.
  4. Place a blank floppy disk into the A: drive.
  5. Click on Create Disk. A message box will appear telling you to insert a new disk.
  6. Click Ok. When Windows finishes copying all the files, remove the disk and label it "Emergency startup disk".

Cleaning the screen

Use a soft, lint free cloth and water to wipe the screen free of dust. Simply wet the cloth, wring out as much water as possible and then wrip the screen.

Cleaning the keyboard

The best way to clean a keyboard is to use canned air and blow the dust particles out.

**Note** - The computer is cooled by air drawn in through vents. Make sure you keep the vents free of dust by turning off the computer and using the soft, damp cloth to clear away the dust. Be careful not to drip water into the vents.

Cleaning the mouse

  1. Turn the mouse upside down.
  2. Rotate the retaining ring on the bottom of the mouse counter-clockwise.
  3. Remove the retaining ring and mouse ball.
  4. Remove any dust, lint or dirt from the mouse ball with a soft cloth.
  5. Clean the mouse rollers with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol.
Replace the mouse ball and lock the retaining ring into place.
