Home is Where We Park Our House

Elinor and Garvie Owensby

Our house in the "Down the Road" configuration.

In June 2000, we sold our house in Austin, TX and became fulltime RV'ers.  We hope to share our travels with friends and family by posting photos of our adventures.

We've recently changed the format to be more journal like:

The sunsets here at Oliver Lee have been great. We're in the East foothills looking out over the Tulerosa Basin. Holloman AFB is down on the desert floor, so we see the Air Force Stealth F-117's . The German Air Force trains here so we see their jets also. There are 700 German families stationed here. They have a yearly Octoberfest at the base, it's next week, guess we'll miss it.

The ocotillo in the foreground is still in bloom. There is an exhibit here of most of the plants from the Chihuahuan Desert. Didn't know there were so many different species of Prickly Pear and Agave.

We moved from 8,000 feet down to 4,300 feet. We had a few things to do before leaving the area and since there was ice on the truck the last few mornings, we decided it was time to leave Cloudcroft. We're at Oliver Lee State Park, 12 miles South of Alamogordo, NM. There's a lot of history here at the mouth of Dog Canyon. The Mescalero Apaches, Geronimo's bunch, used the canyon to escape up into the Sacramento Mountains after battles with the Cavalry. The park is named for Oliver Lee whose ranch headquarters was here. He had the largest ranch in NM, around a million acres, 1880's until the early 1900's.
