Elkhart House Project - Page 4

This weekend it got serious.  Playing the the dirt with tractors and a dozer is just fun and games.  Setting forms and pouring concrete is where the investment really begins.  After this weekend we'll have a man made rock to camp on.

First thing we set the form and added the plumbing.

More plumbing and form work.

Blake helped with tying the rebar and mesh together.  He used this fun little spinner tool for the ties.

The form is complete and the first truck finally arrives!

This is what the first truck left, Johnny doesn't seem to think it was a full 10 yard load.  It didn't cover half the form.  We then had to wait another 45 minutes for the second truck...not good.

Well we're into it now!

We're just finishing up the last third.  This is the second truck and of course he got stuck.  The dozer couldn't budge him.  It took the third truck and the dozer to pull him out.   This caused some problems with the cement that had been poured over an hour earlier.  The big problem is it makes it a lot harder to jitterbug.

It's done!  It's now part of the hill.

Mischelle sitting on the steps.  You can see where we dropped the 8 foot porch down about 1.5 inches.

I did a little cleanup work on Sunday.  I knocked the forms off and removed some of the stakes.  I also got the little tractor and did a little mowing.  Next task...framing.
