Around Christmas 2000 we acquired about 1-acre of land near Elkhart, Texas.  The land is next to some land owned by my brother-in-law Johnny.  Our plan is to build a small country home modeled after cape styling. The plan will be very simple with a footing of about 28x36.  A high pitched roof will allow me to build out the second floor for the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms and the upstairs bath.  Two dormers will be built on the front for the upstairs rooms..   The master bedroom will be downstairs.  It will have a front porch that will extend the width of the front and be 8' deep.   I plan on pouring a slab for a garage and building it later.  My plan is to have something decent in about 1 year. I've already discovered by building it myself with a great amount of help from Johnny, it'll cost about one tenth of what someone else would charge.  I also have other friends who are anxious to help out.  This page will help document as things progress.
