A Journey To My World

Well hello there. As the title suggests, this is my attempt to share just a little bit of what goes on in the life of Bodiford. What you are about to see might scare you, but then again, it probably won't. At any rate, here is...my journal.

7-9-02

Well I've been in California for three weeks and now I'm back. It was probably the most fun-packed three weeks I've ever experienced. GymJam kicks ass, enough said. Now on to other matters. It has come to my attention that this site has lived it's pathetic existance with no mention of my good friends Anton and Derrick. While I have lots of friends that I have not mentioned on this site, these two are by far the most deserving of recognition. They are Andrew's apartment mates, they love America, they let me chill at their house when I very obviously have no real purpose there, and they are all in all just a couple of really kick ass guys. Here's to Anton and Derrick, the only two people who actually have the time and audacity to complain about not being on my site. And to anyone else who may not be mentioned on this site, I apologize for my inconsiderance, if that's even a word, and I am deeply saddened that anyone could be so easily and deeply offended as to ban me from their apartment simply because their name was not somewhere among the cluttered mess of my halfass website. But it's the best damn halfass website in the world.

6-?-02

I think that it's really supposed to be the sixth. It's about 12:30 a.m., but my watch says that it is Wednesday the sixth, which is impossible because 30 minutes ago it was Wednesday the fifth. I've been up waiting for my friend that said he was coming on Wednesday, but when I looked at my watch and it was after midnight and it said Wednesday, I thought that maybe I was confused and I had been up waiting for him on Tuesday. Earlier today I had thought that it was Tuesday, but I was corrected. I just asked my friend in Lubbock via the internet to make sure. He said that his clock on his computer said Wednesday until midnight, then it said Tuesday. So now I'm completely lost. I have absolutely no clue what day of the week it is, when Kit is getting here, or why no clocks seem to be working. I'm pretty sure that something has upset the space-time continuum though. At least I hope so, because that sounds pretty hard to fix, which means that I will never have to be on time anywhere again. If it's Wednesday twice in a row here, and Tuesday comes after Wednesday in Lubbock, how can my future boss ever complain that I'm a mere five or ten minutes late for work? Of course I might be able to surprise him by showing up for work on a Tuesday before getting hired on Wednesday, if time starts going backwards. Oh well, maybe things will fix themselves. Kit's coming from Bryan, and I have no idea what day it is down there, so I guess I'll just wait up for a while.

I went swimming today. Diving actually, didn't get away from the board much. I tried some stuff for the first time. Full twisting one and a half, two and a half, full twisting dive (so that's not as impressive, but hey, it's tricky when you're used to flipping). Andrew busted his back trying what he claimed was supposed to be a two and a half, but turned out to be a one and three quarters. He bailed out way early. I busted my face on an actual two and a half. I was looking for the water and found it. Jason busted his nuts on a double back. His legs weren't together. Oh well.

My parents bought my brother a fancy-ass new car. It's one helluva lot nicer than mine ever was. And now mine's got golfball size hail damage all over it's poor old self. Whatever, it still drives. It has no shocks, and my door doesn't open on the first try usually, but it still drives. If you close the cupholders it takes about a half an hour for them to open again. My dad closes them every time he drives it. And my car only has 75% power locks. It's inspection is expired and it probably won't pass again because it's missing a headlight cover. But hey, it still drives. Not legally as of two days ago, but it still drives none the less. I'm really not bitter though. My car gets me where I'm going, which is apparently nowhere. And my parents said that they would get me a new one anyway because they feel guilty. I really don't care though, I'd probably just make it crappy like the one I have now. I kinda like my car anyway. We've been through a lot together. Like signs and feilds and the occasional other car. I just hope my parents don't get me another car without at least asking me first. They just up and bought me my first one and just up and bough JBod this one, but if they get me another, I'd kinda like to see it before they buy it.
Nicole said that she cut her hair off. It's shorter than mine. I'll have to see the pictures. I've always wanted to dye my hair blue. I think I will now. Not permanantely, just with some of that stuff that washes out in a week or two. Maybe I could even get it close to my favorite color. Of course, I'm sure that the color looks alot better on my brother's car than it would on my head. Oh well. Soon I'll go to college.

How's about an update, eh? Good God it's been forever. Well our team went on to get 3rd at the State meet, which is good and all considering that we were expected to finish like 6th at the beginning of the year. Permian beat us. Oh well. I won pommel horse and my brother got 2nd, which was really badass. Never really expected that, but it was probably the coolest thing that could have happened. Andrew and Ashley and I got selected to help represent Texas at the National Meet in Las Vegas. That's already done too. I got 4th in the all around. There was some crazy good stuff there, so 4th is great. I got 3rd on pbars and broke a school record that I already had, but I was tied with like 3 other people. Now I've got it all to myself. That's five school records that I have. Oh, and I broke the state pommel horse scoring record back at the state meet, by the way.
I got a job at Chris Waller's GymJam this summer. I'm going to be manager of the camp store. That'll be fun. Gonzo should be working out there too, for at least two of the three weeks that I'll be there. But what's really great is that Nicole is going to go down to Santa Barbara to visit. I'd be sad if I went to the camp and didn't get to see her, so it's a good thing that she's going to be around. Hmm....what else...nothing I guess. I went camping and got sunburned a couple of days ago. Then it hailed that night and broke out our skylight and dented the hell out of my car. Oh well.
Oh yeah, almost forgot. I graduated from high school. I don't see what the big deal is...all you have to do is show up and do most of the stuff that they tell you to. I had to go to the stupid thing where you walk across the stage. I was hoping to miss it for Nationals, but they fell a week apart this year. It was alright though, because our valedictorian gave the best valedictory speech ever. Talked about badass trucks and relaxing and tapping the Rockies and whatnot. That's what high school is about...trucks and beer, why not say so in the speech. Funny part was that everyone loved his speech, even the parents and the principals and administration and junk. Good stuff. And Andrew and I did backflips after we had walked the stage. That's three years in a row that a gymnast has done something after walking the stage. Three years makes it a tradition. Damn well better keep it going, guys.

4-5-02

The Regional gymnastics meet was held this past Tuesday and Wednesday. After placing third at the District meet, we were expected to place 3rd again at Regionals. But that wouldn't make for an interesting story, now would it?

You know how if a team is really, really good at something, the other teams start to dislike it a little? That's the way Permian High School is. They had won something like eight Regional championships in a row until we broke their streak last year. I think that they really wanted to win again, but I'm getting a little ahead of myself here.
At the district meet, we really really wanted to beat Permian. We had an alright meet, but when it was all over, we were third, right behind Permian, and Cooper had won the meet. Our team is really close with the Cooper team for some reason, so we were happy for them to win. We were also pissed that we only got third, even though nobody expected us to do any better. After the team we had last year, and all the seniors that we lost, third place in the District was exactly where we were supposed to be. Although we were quite a bit closer to the other team than anyone expected us to be.
The week before Regionals, Cooper lost one of their best gymnasts due to a wrist injury. Not good news. It looked like Permian was going to regain their Regional crown. The top three teams in the Region qualify for the state meet, and Cooper was going to have trouble even finishing in the top three because of Lubbock High School, the best team from the other District in our Region. The first day of the two day competition went by about as was expected. No team did the best they could do, but nobody really fouled up incredibly. When the results were posted after the first day, Permian was in the lead, followed by us, then Lubbock, then Cooper in fourth. Not at all the way Cooper or we wanted it.
The second day, we were cheering on Cooper, and they were cheering us on. It was the epitome of good sportsmanship and favoritism all at the same time. We had our best meet of the season so far, and Cooper pulled together what they had to do their best. When it was all done, it looked like we had won by 0.375, but that was just going from my dad's computer and the scores that he had, which could have been wrong. Then something potentially disastrous happened.
Permian put inquiries in on some of their pommel horse scores. One of the routines alone was raised 0.3. We thought that surely the other scores would be raised enough to make up the difference. While we were waiting on the results, we thought that Permian had won, and they thought that we had won. It was too close to call, and nobody had any real idea what team was in what place. Permian's a great team, Cooper's a great team when they have all their guys, Lubbock's a great team, and we had almost the best meet we could have. There was so much tension in the gym because we didn't know if Cooper was going to qualify for state, and we didn't know if we had gotten first or second place.
Finally they announced the team results. In third place....Cooper High School. Our team was cheering louder than anyone else until we remembered that Lubbock was sitting right behind us. It turns out that Lubbock might actually get to go to state anyway because a team from another Region didn't make the qualifying score. I'm really happy about that, because Lubbock is a great team, and they're all really cool guys. In second place....Permian High School. There was a squeal from our girls team (who also won the meet in their competition) and a muffled satisfactory grunt from our team. When they officially announced that we had won, we learned that it was by 0.025, the same margin we won state by last year and the smallest possible margin of victory.
On the way to the awards stand, something happened that we never expected. We were rushed by the Cooper team, with whom we exchanged hugs and high fives before shaking hands with the Permian team and taking our place on top of the awards stand. It was the greatest gymnastic moment anybody on our team had ever been a part of. After the meet, Permian's coach congratulated us on being by far the most improved team at the meet. That felt really great, and we all knew it was true.

The Crunchathon went much better this morning. Andrew and I sat down with the box we started the other day and actually ate all the rest of it. Afterword, we both just wanted to sleep. We couldn't though, because of this silly thing called school. Oh, and guess what I learned there today....absolutely nothing.

2-19-02

Alright, so Andrew and I sat down and had one bowl of Crunch Berries each and then decided that we really didn't want to eat a whole box. We played a whole lot of pool instead. Maybe tomorrow we'll be hungrier, but that's a whole lot of cereal.

2-18-02

Two men, one box of Crunch Berries. Can it be done? See the results of the first ever Two Man Crunchathon tomorrow.

2-17-02

Well, it's been a while. Prude Ranch was maybe the most fun I've ever had in Texas. I hate to say stuff like that because it's probably not true, but it was pretty damn fun. I'm 18 now, if that matters. A couple of random girls from Ballinger that I've never met stopped by my house today, so I talked to them for a while. That was pretty weird, but not as weird as the guy at the convenience store that recognized me from the paper as "that gymnastics guy."

1-21-02

We got off school today for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Nobody's exactly sure why, but we did. It's just fine with me though, I'll only have to go to school 2 days this week. I have a meet on Thursday and Friday through Sunday will be taken up by a G/T trip to Prude Ranch, which is somewhere and we will be doing something. But anyway, back to Dr. King. He was a brilliant man and he worked very hard so that people like me can sleep in on a Monday. My birtday's coming up soon. I should get to sleep in for that, but I won't.

1-6-02

It's been a while. I got a scanner for Christmas (Thanks, sis!), so I've been going scan crazy. It snowed again on the first, and I took part in a snowball fight at five in the morning. Other than that, nothing has really happened. School starts tomorrow. That'll give me something to do at least.
